Kenyan writer brings poetry and culture to middle schools

Poet visit

Sixth graders at both Oak-Land and Stillwater middle schools are learning all about poetry from an unlikely teacher - a spoken word poet who traveled to Stillwater all the way from Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. Poet Njeri Wangari has spent two weeks in our district teaching students the art of writing poetry, while also exposing them on African culture. Wangari's visit to our district was supported with a grant from the Partnership Plan.

Stonebridge students are "moving up!"
Kindergarten through 4th grade students were able to “move up” to the next grade level for a morning at Stonebridge Elementary. The purpose of this activity is to provide an opportunity for children to meet teachers and see the classrooms that they will be in for the 2019-2020 school year. These moments provided time for students to reflect on their learning, their growth and memorable moments they have experienced through the year.
