High school among best in the nation two years in a row

For the second year in a row, Stillwater Area High School made Newsweek magazine’s list of Top 500 High Schools in the nation! SAHS was one of only 17 Minnesota high schools featured in the ranking of nearly 16,000 public schools. 

Getting ready to go back to school

The end of summer and start of a new school year is just around the corner! Registration events at several of our schools start next week, with open house events taking place the week of Aug. 22. Visit school websites for back to school events and to find school supply lists.

Back to school checklist for parents/guardians:

  • Create an online FeePay account and start paying online for meals, field trips and more.
  • Review the Parent and Student handbook and sign the required form in Skyward Family Access that indicates you’ve reviewed the policies, procedures and required notices in the handbook.
  • While in Skyward, update your email, phone numbers and emergency contact information.
  • Attend the back-to-school open houses and registration events, and get to know your child’s teacher(s) and other school staff.

A dozen industry experts came together with a dozen local educators recently to re-think education. The first of its kind “Think Tank” conversation was designed to bring together people with very different perspectives to talk about a common interest – our future workforce. Read more.

Be sure to download the app, or check out the Nutrislice website, for all you need to know about school meals. The smartphone app shows each day’s menu, including pictures and descriptions of the foods and nutritional information to make finding common allergens simple. 

Newspaper students learn from industry leaders

Two Stillwater Area High School newspaper students attended an intensive four-day storytelling workshop. Seniors Olivia Weirtz and Tiana Meador were among 19 student journalists from around the country who took part in the one-of-a-kind weekend. Read more.

Open forums coming back as part of school board meetings

District residents wishing to share ideas or concerns with the school board will be able to do so during open forums as part of monthly business meetings. Based on feedback from community members, board members voted to go back to open forums after piloting a listening session format for the past school year. The board also voted to start their business meetings at 6 p.m. instead of 6:30 p.m. Read more.
