A major milestone is now underway for Rochester’s transportation future.
Beginning Monday, June 16, construction officially starts on the Link Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridor, marking a significant turning point in the City’s efforts to deliver faster, fare-free, and environmentally sustainable transit service. Once complete, Link BRT will provide a modern and efficient option for city residents, downtown employees, patients, and visitors traveling within the downtown area and along the BRT corridor.
The first phase of construction focuses on key underground utility work along 2nd Street SW between 11th Avenue SW and 12th Avenue SW. From June 16 through mid-July, crews will upgrade water and stormwater systems, with traffic shifted to the south curb to maintain one lane of travel in each direction. From mid-July to mid-August, work will continue with traffic shifting to the north curb. These carefully coordinated improvements, aligned with other downtown construction projects, lay the essential groundwork for the full buildout of the BRT system.
The project team remains committed to keeping the community informed and minimizing disruptions, with clear signage, ongoing access to local businesses, and regular updates as work advances. With corridor construction now underway, Link BRT is moving from vision to reality—bringing fare-free electric bus service and faster, cleaner, more convenient travel for everyone who lives, works, and visits downtown.
