Riverside Concerts' World Music Series 2018 starts tomorrow!
Riverside Concerts' World Music Series project featuring three world-class artists/ensembles exploring the musical landscapes of Mexican-American Mariachi music, Tuvan throat singing, and Québécoise folk music starts tomorrow.
The series will run throughout the 2018 summer concert season and will take place at the following venues: Thursdays On First & 3rd, the Rochester Public Library, and the Paramount Theatre in Austin, MN. Each artist will be in the area for two-day mini-residencies; performing two free concert previews on day-one of the residency, leading up to a full-length capstone performance on day-two; all of which are also free of charge.
The World Music Series is brought to you by The City of Rochester Music Department/Riverside Concerts , the Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council, the Minnesota State Arts Board (MSAB), the Mayo Clinic, the Rochester Public Library, and the Rochester Downtown Alliance.
The purpose of this program is to foster among community members an appreciation for music, develop future audience, patrons and contributors for the arts and introduce the community to a variety of musical instruments and genres.

Alash Thursday, August 9, 2018 @ 7:00 PM - Thursdays On First - Peace Plaza Stage
Alash are masters of Tuvan throat singing, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. Masters of traditional Tuvan instruments as well as the art of throat singing, Alash are deeply committed to traditional Tuvan music and culture. At the same time, they are fans of western music. Believing that traditional music must constantly evolve, the musicians subtly infuse their songs with western elements, creating their own unique style that is fresh and new, yet true to their Tuvan musical heritage.
