Seniors
If your client is 65 or older, their income and lifestyle changes may affect their Minnesota income taxes.
For specific information for these clients, check out our Senior Citizens page and our Seniors Income Tax Fact Sheet.
Senior citizens may be eligible to defer a portion of their property taxes. For details, see our Property Tax Deferral for Senior Citizens webpage.
Tribal Members
If your client is a Tribal member of a reservation, there are specific tax rules that may apply in their situation.
The Individual Income Tax for Tribal Members page has Minnesota tax information for these clients. If you have specific questions about Tribal members and taxes, reach out to tribal.outreach.mdor@state.mn.us.
New this year on Schedule M1M, Income Additions and Subtractions, for the subtraction on line 19, you must include the name of the Tribe and the physical address of the taxpayer. The Certificate of Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) number or enrollment number is optional this year. There is a 10-character limit, and we will accept “Unknown” or blank if your client cannot obtain it. If they don’t know their number, they can contact their Tribe administration for future reference.
