 Food Scraps Pickup Program updates
Program expansion
Ramsey and Washington counties’ Food Scraps Pickup Program is now available to 19 new communities: Afton, Bayport, Bayport Township, Birchwood Village, Dellwood, Denmark Township, Grant, Lake Elmo, Lake Saint Croix Beach, Lakeland, Lakeland Shores, Mahtomedi, Oak Park Heights, Pine Springs, Stillwater, Stillwater Township, St. Mary's Point, West Lakeland Township and Willernie.
These are in addition to all residents of Cottage Grove, Grey Cloud Island Township, Landfall, Maplewood, Newport, North St. Paul, Oakdale, St. Paul Park and Woodbury, where the program has already been available. See the full map of eligible communities.
As of Oct. 1, 2024, residents of the new communities can sign up for the program at no cost by visiting FoodScrapsPickup.com or calling 651-661-9393.
Once residents sign up, they receive a free supply of food scrap bags designed specifically for this program. Once filled, residents place their food scrap bags in their trash cart or dumpster to be collected by their hauler. Food scrap bags are separated from the trash at the R&E Center and then sent to an industrial compost facility.
Unloading residential waste from Food Scrap Pickup Program eligible cities
Haulers servicing residential areas, multi-unit complexes and senior living communities in Food Scrap Pickup Program eligible communities need to tip their waste in the food scrap bag building at the R&E Center. New signage has been put in place to mark the designated route. When haulers arrive at the R&E Center, they are directed to the food scrap bag building tipping floor, so the food scrap bags can be separated from trash using robotic arms powered by AI technology.
