Infectious Waste ⚠️
R&E continues to receive commercial waste containing improperly disposed of infectious waste. First and foremost, this poses significant health risks for both our and your employees.
We appreciate the cooperation of the haulers we've engaged with and request that you continue to maintain proactive communication on this matter with your medical, dental and veterinary account holders. In accordance with Minnesota regulations, all infectious waste generators must establish a site-specific infectious waste management plan, covering waste generation locations, staff training and procedures to ensure proper infectious waste management.
The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency’s fact sheet on infectious waste management offers guidance on how to handle infectious waste. Transportation and fees for proper disposal will continue to be the responsibility of the hauler. Please let us know if you have questions or require additional resources to provide to your customers.
Food Scraps Pickup Program
Program expansion
The food scraps pickup program is now available to residents of Maplewood, Cottage Grove, Newport and North Saint Paul.
Residents can sign up to participate and receive a free supply of compostable bags designed for the program. These food scrap bags, once filled, will be collected in the same trash cart or dumpster as regular trash. Once hauled and delivered to the R&E Center, advanced AI sorting technology will separate the bags for composting.
We recognize the crucial role haulers play in engaging residents, and we encourage you to promote program participation in these areas. Residents in these cities can get started today by visiting FoodScrapsPickup.com or calling 651-661-9393.
The program will roll out to all residents of Ramsey and Washington counties over multiple years. We'll keep you informed on future program expansion.
Unloading residential waste from food scraps pickup program eligible areas
With the food scraps pickup program rollout underway, all waste haulers servicing residential and apartment complexes in Cottage Grove, Newport, Maplewood and North Saint Paul should use door "B" for unloading. New signage has been put in place to clearly mark this designated route.

Holiday décor disposal
Ramsey and Washington counties provide residents with safe and sustainable disposal options for common holiday decorations.
While legal to place in the trash, holiday/Christmas trees can be brought to Ramsey or Washington County yard waste collection sites throughout the two counties to be turned into mulch. The trees should be free of decoration, lights, wire, tinsel and tree bags. Note that flocked Christmas trees (pictured below, right) are not accepted at yard waste collection sites.
Share this message with your customers to help these items end up in the correct location for proper disposal!
