Happy June! As we step into summer, June offers us powerful opportunities to celebrate, reflect, and take action. This month marks Pride Month, a time to honor the resilience, joy, and contributions of LGBTQ+ communities, and to recommit ourselves to building a world where everyone is free to live as their authentic selves.
June is also Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, which reminds us of the importance of supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. It’s a time to raise awareness, advance research, and uplift the caregivers who show up every day with love and strength.
As we move through the month, may we lead with compassion, stand in solidarity, and continue creating a more inclusive and supportive community for all.
Miigwech, or thank you, for this opportunity to serve you.
P.S. My office is always available to answer your questions, navigate county services, or help us all foster connections to make Maplewood, North St. Paul and White Bear Lake even better places to live, work and play.
"As we develop [county] budget, it’s important to take a step back and understand the broader financial context that will shape our decisions in the months ahead. While department heads are currently crafting their proposed budgets, this is a pivotal moment for all Ramsey County employees to reconnect with the bigger picture — because our collective understanding is essential to making thoughtful, sustainable choices.
"Ramsey County’s funding comes primarily from property taxes, intergovernmental revenues (especially federal and state dollars) and service-related fees. This revenue mix can be significantly impacted by factors outside our control, including shifts in the economy, state and federal mandates, and executive orders. Even before the state budget forecast and the governor’s proposed budget were released, we were already facing a tight fiscal environment.
"A major driver of the budget is our investment in employees and the implementation of our class and compensation study. This work is long overdue and deeply important to our goals of fairness, equity and competitiveness — but it also requires a significant financial investment."
- Ling Becker, Ramsey County Manager
