Third doses of COVID-19 vaccine recommended for some immunocompromised people
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends a third dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine for a specific group of people with moderately to severely compromised immune systems (active treatment for cancer, solid organ transplant, advanced or untreated HIV infection, active treatment with immune suppression, primary immune deficiency disease or stem cell transplant). The third dose should be from the same manufacturer as the first two and will increase the individual’s primary immune response to vaccination.
- At this time, Saint Paul – Ramsey County Public health is only providing first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
- Individuals who are part of this identified group are encouraged to contact their health care provider to obtain their third dose.

Saint Paul - Ramsey County Public Health recommends masking in K-12 schools
The CDC recently released guidance regarding universal indoor masking for all K-12 schools. Acknowledging the importance of full-time in-person learning as well as keeping everyone safe, all teachers, staff, students and visitors to K-12 schools should wear a mask while indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Saint Paul – Ramsey County Public Health does not have the authority to mandate a mask policy for schools, but fully supports this CDC guidance and strongly recommends schools require masks.
In Ramsey County, the level of community transmission of COVID-19 is currently rated as “High”.
