Welcome to the 2nd edition of our Ramsey County Youth Works! e-newsletter. Since we are in the initial stages of this effort, I’d like to reiterate the vision behind this community driven endeavor. This effort is a true demonstration of community partnership at its finest. Ramsey County Youth Works! aims to bring a deeper awareness of the value of youth employment experiences to the community. I hope you will follow along with us in this journey as we showcase the amazing value of young people who call Ramsey County home. We are seeking partners who agree with our tenets and want to uplift the community value we all get when youth receive work, volunteer and internship experiences. Even if you don’t work directly with youth, you have a vital role to play! There is no better investment we can make toward our shared success as a community than investing in our youth!

Ramsey County Workforce Solutions is excited to announce that Youth Works! was recently selected as a service project for the new cohort of Leadership Saint Paul (LSP), through the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. LSP is the premier program in the Twin Cities for emerging and current civic and business leaders that prepares, challenges and engages leaders to strengthen the Saint Paul/East Metro region.
On Jan. 9, Workforce Solutions Planning Specialist Rachael Molenaar presented Youth Works! to the new cohort of LSP. After hearing about seven service projects, LSP members chose which service project they would like to join. This new LSP team will assist the Youth Works! collaborative with planning, hosting and evaluating a panel discussion for local employers later in 2020.
Welcome the following members to the team:
Youth Works! Partner: Ramsey County U LEAD
Featured Employer: Ramsey County Attorney’s Office
Vue Vang started the U LEAD program as a junior attending Humboldt High School. He has been a very active student, participating in track and field, Urban Debate Team, and the College Possible program. Vue continues to excel both academically and personally. He has chosen a career pathway in the areas of political science and law. One of Vue’s employment goals was to do an internship with the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office. Through diligence and academic achievement, Vue was chosen as a 2019 summer intern. Currently, Vue is a freshman attending the University of Minnesota Duluth. He plans to major in political science/law and become an active member of the student body.
“The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office internship provided me with a clear look of what it meant to be 'in the system.'” I worked in the Juvenile Prosecution Division and was tasked with three jobs: observing court sessions, interviewing attorneys, and performing clerical duties. If I were to rate them from best to worst, I would say they were all great experiences. As my future looks bright, I will never forget my roots. Roots which stem from a personal commitment made by a young Asian boy who saw the damage in his own community along with other communities like my own. After this internship, I have grown even more committed to my dreams of practicing law and I cannot thank the Workforce Solutions’ U LEAD staff Kelly and Tonya enough for their commitment to serving students like myself.” - Vue Vang
