Rush Line BRT planning makes progress in 2018

Environmental analysis, preliminary engineering underway

The environmental analysis phase of the Rush Line BRT Project began in January 2018. Milestones this year include:

-Formation of a Policy Advisory Committee, Technical Advisory Committee and Community Advisory Committee to guide the project.

-Engagement with over 1,500 community members at community events and meetings and through online engagement to collect input on station locations, safety, pedestrian and bicycle connections and other key topics.

-Station area planning that has informed station locations and generated ideas from the community about future land uses near stations.

-Development of preliminary engineering plans that reflect public input.

-Initial analysis for the Environmental Assessment, expected to be released for public comment in 2020.

What to expect in 2019

-Ongoing public engagement in all Rush Line BRT communities.

-Advancement of preliminary engineering plans in coordination with project partners.

-Continued analysis for the Environmental Assessment.

Open house in White Bear Lake

Thursday, January 10 | 4:30 - 7:30 p.m.

In January, Rush Line BRT Project staff will be seeking input on several downtown White Bear Lake station location options in response to public feedback in recent months. Join staff for an open house at White Bear Lake City Hall on Thursday, January 10 to learn more about the Rush Line BRT Project and provide input on the downtown station location options under evaluation. Stop in any time to talk with project staff and enjoy some light refreshments.

Additionally, an online survey will be released in early January to collect input about the station location options in downtown White Bear Lake. The survey will allow community members to provide input whether or not they are able to attend the open house.

January public engagement in Saint Paul

A Rush Line planner discusses Rush Line BRT with none other than Santa Claus

On December 6 at the Duluth and Case Recreation Center in Saint Paul, Santa Claus himself had some insightful questions about the future Rush Line station at Maplewood Mall.

Metro Transit moves toward electric bus fleet

Metro Transit announced plans to electrify its fleet of approximately 1,000 buses in the years to come. Electric buses are cleaner, quieter and up to eight times more efficient than traditional buses.

Rush Line BRT will be part of the Metro Transit system and efforts are underway to evaluate a fully electric Rush Line fleet.
