Summer volunteering and training opportunities

Kids splashing with a puppy

This weekend is shaping up to be a scorcher, weather-wise.

All of us can be impacted by long-term heat, but it's especially important to keep an eye on your little ones, elders, and others who may not have access to air conditioning. MDH has a great factsheet  that includes some helpful tips for staying cool when it is very hot outside. Remember to stay hydrated and take frequent breaks if you are working outdoors.

For more information on extreme heat, including a list of local cooling sites, go to Ramsey County's Extreme Heat webpage

Ramsey County Fair: volunteer at the booth this July

Ramsey County Emergency Management, in coordination with Ramsey County Public Health and the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office is hosting a public education booth at the county fair. We are looking for volunteers to assist with booth staffing at the fair between Wednesday July 12 and Sunday, July 16.

You will play disaster trivia games with attendees and provide information on disaster safety in a fun, casual environment.

Point of dispensing (POD) training: sign up now

As some of you already know, our colleagues at the Health Department have been working on revising some of our existing protocol to support an anthrax response. Now we have greatly streamlined guidance as well as an online screening tool to support our response efforts.

In this training, you will learn more about the federal resources that are available to Ramsey County during a public health emergency, as well as your essential role as a volunteer at one of our public POD sites.

This training will occur at 90 West Plato on July 14, from 5:30-7 PM. Light refreshments will be available. To sign up or learn more, click here.

Psychological First Aid: thanks for attending

We had a small but mighty turnout for our Psychological First Aid training on May 31, here at the Plato Conference Center. Many thanks to our trainer, Jonathan Bundt, for his conversational style and valuable information.
