World TB Awareness Day, Autism training opportunity, and reminder of April MRC event

Health Professions Autism Network Kickoff Event

I am delighted to share the following event from one of our volunteers. The Health Professions Autism Network is hosting a kick-off event on May 23 from 8 to 10 AM at La Clinica Community Room (153 Cesar Chavez St, St. Paul). This event will bring together health care professionals interested in learning how to better serve our growing autism population.  Attendees will learn how to:

Understand Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) across the lifespan.

Identify challenges in the health care setting for individuals with ASD and their families.

Strategize methods to provide patient-centered care in the attendee’s own health setting.

Contact hours available. To register or learn more, click here: https://tinyurl.com/AutismHealthCare

World TB Awareness Day

TB (tuberculosis) is an "equal opportunity illness." You may not know that in 2016, Minnesota had 168 cases of active tuberculosis. TB is preventable and curable. Our public health staff work with clinicians  to make sure people with TB get effective and timely treatment.

If you know someone with symptoms of TB (ongoing cough, night sweats and fevers, rapid weight loss) - even if they have already received treatment for latent TB -- we recommend that they visit a doctor. For more information on tuberculosis, visit https://www.cdc.gov/tb/

Don't forget: free access and functional needs training April 20

Seats are reapidly filling! Don't forget to sign up for our access and functional needs training on Thursday, April 20, at the Roseville Community Library.

This training is designed to improve emergency planning for individuals who experience disability as well as their families, neighbors, and friends.

Light refreshments will be available, along with continuing education credits for some professions. For more information, click here.

It is always a pleasure to connect with our volunteers. Let me know what I can do to improve our program!

With best wishes,

Laura Andersen, MRC Coordinator
