Licensure Compliance Learning Commons

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB or Board) has launched the Licensure Compliance Learning Commons, a space for learning with and from one another. District staff are the primary audience, but anyone with an interest in licensure compliance is welcome to participate.

The Learning Commons is a series of regularly scheduled, virtual training and working sessions. These one-hour sessions are hosted twice a week on Tuesday afternoons and Thursday mornings.

Join Link: Learning Commons Series Tuesdays, 1pm-2pm (June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30) Thursdays, 9am-10am (June 4, 11, 18, 25) Recordings of session training segments will be made and posted online for later reference for those unable to participate in real time. Sessions will begin with a short training segment focused on a particular aspect of licensure compliance or the Staff Automated Report (STAR), not to exceed 10 minutes. After the short training segment, the Licensure Compliance Learning Commons is a virtual workspace to ask questions and learn in real time from PELSB's Data and Compliance Specialist.

June 2026 Schedule

June 2: Licensed Administrators. What are allowable assignments? Submitting assignments in the Staff Automated Report (STAR).

June 4: Related Service Personnel. What are allowable assignments? Accounting for non-student contact time in the Staff Automated Report (STAR).

June 9: Once in a Lifetime One-Year Renewal. What is it? Who is eligible? How does a person apply?

June 11: Lifetime Short-Call Substitute. Who is eligible? What are allowable assignments? Could your district use a Lifetime Short-Call Substitute to address teacher shortages?

June 16: Short-Call Substitute. Who is eligible? What are the different substitute licenses? How long can a substitute be in a unique assignment?

June 18: Countering Licensure (Compliance) Myths. What are common misconceptions about licensure?

June 23: Planning for Application Times. What is the timeline from application to licensure?

June 25: Suggested Yearly Timeline for Licensure Compliance. Think of this as ‘training’ for the Staff Automated Report (STAR).

June 30: Districts’ Accountability. We will review statutes and rules about licensure compliance and reporting which impact districts.
