James Butler is an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities majoring in Environmental Engineering and minoring in Chemistry. Previously, he has worked for the Indian Health Service and conducted research on granular activated carbon treatment with sorption enhancers for PFAS contamination. James is planning on graduate studies in environmental engineering is interested in air pollution/quality engineering and public policy. He is also interested in how transportation systems and energy source decisions affect air pollution exposure rates disproportionally impacting different demographic groups, in both developing and developed countries.
His interests include biking, backpacking, politics, and listening to NPR. He also played trumpet in the University of Minnesota Marching Band —“The Pride of Minnesota” — for four years.
