Meet our Data Harvesters

Greetings friends of the Groundwater Contamination Mapping Project,

We are making good progress on our Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund funded project that will gather data about groundwater contamination in one place and create an interactive map to tell the story of what areas in Minnesota have groundwater contamination from Superfund sites.

The gathering of data is primarily being done by a dedicated crew of data harvesters who are working hard in the field of our files to make this project a reality.

All our data harvesters are excited to be working on this important project. We're very fortunate to have them on our team.

Matthias Wolf is an undergraduate Environmental Science major at the University of St. Thomas Following his graduation this spring 2018 he plans to enroll in a graduate program with a focus on environmental contamination and remediation.

This project is allowing him to expand his capability working with GIS software and computer programming.

Outside of academics and work, he loves spending time outdoors, especially biking, camping or rock collecting. Matthias has a quiet enthusiasm and dedication for this project that will benefit his home state.

Lauren Strug is a graduate of the Beloit College Geology program and is a Master’s student at the University of Minnesota in Geographic Information Science.

In addition to her work as a data harvester, she also volunteers with the USGS Minnesota Water Resource Center doing data management and working with well data for the Site-Specific Water Use Database.

Her passions include cooking, hiking, and environmental justice.

Lauren is always looking for opportunities to create and learn. Currently, she is working on her programming skills and looking for opportunities to create and learn about subsurface 3D hydrologic models.

Michele Pannier is an undergraduate at the University of Minnesota studying Geography and GIS. Michele is interested in data science and data visualization, she hopes to pursue a graduate degree in Data Science and in the future work on similar projects that focus on environmental data.

Her interests include camping, traveling abroad, and watching forensic documentaries.

Michele is eager to learn, she has a passion for life that she brings to our project and to everyone around her.

The mission of the MPCA is to protect and improve the environment and enhance human health.
