The Minnesota GreenCorps program is an AmeriCorps program administered by the MPCA that works on addressing environmental issues and building community resilience, including a focus on serving communities in need. Several projects for the 2017-18 program year serve under-served and economically disadvantaged communities in both the metro area and statewide. The program is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in serving as members. More information on projects and how to apply is below.

What do MN GreenCorps members do?

Minnesota GreenCorps is an AmeriCorps program places AmeriCorps members with organizations around the state to spend 11 months addressing environmental issues and building community resilience.

MPCA is planning to place up to 40 full-time Minnesota GreenCorps members with local governments, nonprofit organizations and educational institutions statewide to serve on projects in the areas of:

  • Air Quality (including Energy Conservation and Green Transportation)
  • Waste Prevention and Recycling
  • Green Infrastructure (including Urban Forestry, Stormwater Management, and Local Foods)
  • Living Green

Member activities include but are not limited to: environmental education and outreach to people of all ages, mobilizing volunteers, implementing sustainability-related projects, collecting, benchmarking and analyzing data, measuring environmental results, field work, collaborating with local officials and community members, and much more.

Where and when will you serve?

All service positions are for 11 months beginning September 13, 2017 and lasting through August 2018.  

Members must complete 1,700 hours of service (around 40 hours per week).

Applicants may choose the areas of the state where they are willing to serve, and if selected will be placed at a host site organization such as a city, county, nonprofit, school, etc. Qualified applicants may be contacted for an interview in June or July 2017.

Member Benefits

In addition to gaining valuable skills and experience in the environmental field, members receive a living allowance of $1,148 per month, an offer of health insurance, and loan forbearance. Upon completing the program, participants receive an Education Award of up to $5,815 which can be used to pay off qualified student loans or to finance future education.
