Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB), MPRB Commissioner Anita Tabb and community members gathered on Thursday, September 18, at the Parade Sports Complex for a special ribbon cutting celebrating the repaved Parade Parkway, a bustling connector between Dunwoody Boulevard and Kenwood Parkway, and the newly repaved Parade Ice Garden parking lot.

“I am excited that construction is completed to the parkway and the parking lot – since the parkway’s completion we at the MPRB have received numerous compliments about the improved condition of the road,” said Anita Tabb, Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) Fourth Park District Commissioner. “It is clear to me that these improvements will not only benefit the neighborhood, but also the thousands of community members who use Parade Stadium and Parade Ice Garden.”

Parade Parkway is a short segment of street between Dunwoody Boulevard and Kenwood Parkway utilized by many Minneapolis residents, athletes and fans.

“This is really the result of many, many people who came together to make this happen – it really means a lot to those that live in the area,” said Commissioner Tabb. “Thank you to the residents and the Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association, the MPRB Planning department, the Conservation Corps and a special thank you to my fellow commissioners for their support.”

The parkway and parking lots were in dire need of reconstruction. Improvements to the parkway and parking lots were included in the MPRB 2011 Capital Plan for Parkways and Parkway Lighting, with additional funding added for parking lot reconstruction in the 2012 budget. Construction on Parade Parkway began in September 2012, the trees were replanted in spring 2013, the parking lot re-opened in August and rain gardens are nearly completed.
