Marshall Terrace Park Playground Replacement Begins

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) will begin demolition of the existing playground at Marshall Terrace Park on Monday, August 12th. This is the long awaited start of the construction of the new playground funded in 2011.

The new playground incorporates nature and river themes and will have many fun features including: a log balance beam, log crawl tunnel, mushroom stepping pods, and play house in the age 2-5 play area, as well as a tree trunk climber, climbing boulder and several slides in the age 5-12 playground. This project is funded with $100,000 from the MPRB Neighborhood Park Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and with approximately $97,000 from the Marshall Terrace NRP funding granted by the neighborhood organization, Concerned Citizens of Marshall Terrace.

Construction within the playground will continue through the fall. Weather and construction schedules permitting, the playgrounds are to be complete and ready for use before the snow flies later this year. During construction, the playgrounds and seating area between the two play areas will be fenced off and closed. Trucks will also be hauling materials in and out during construction, so parking may be limited and construction traffic will moving around the area. For your safety, please pay attention to signage and stay away from work areas and construction vehicles.

Marshall Terrace Park is neighborhood park along the Mississippi River at 2740 Marshall St. NE. The existing playground was built in 1982 and has exceeded its expected lifespan. Other amenities in the park include ball fields, a sand volleyball court, a basketball court, wading pool, restrooms and picnic areas.
