Winter Programs and Public Art in Downtown Parks
In times that call for care and connection, Minneapolis parks remain places to gather, move, and spend time together.
Over the coming weeks, Downtown Parks is hosting a series of programs designed to bring people together in simple, meaningful ways. Free and low-cost programs continue throughout Downtown Parks, alongside a small number of specialty offerings with advance registration. All events are centered on care, creativity, and community.
Snow Sculptures in Downtown Parks On view now | Free to visit
Winter art is taking shape across Downtown Parks. We invite you to come out and see the current snow sculptures on view at Mill Ruins Park and Father Hennepin Bluff Park, created by local artists Heather Friedli and Team KWE.
Each sculpture is carved directly from packed snow and reflects seasonal themes, storytelling, and the relationship between people, place, and time along the riverfront. These temporary works are meant to be experienced outdoors—whether you stop by during a walk or make a special trip to see them.
More sculptures are still to come:
-
Summer will be carved by Heather Friedli at Nicollet Island Park, February 2–6
-
Fall will be carved by Team KWE at Graco Park, February 9–13
Visitors are welcome to stop by and watch the carving process as the artists bring each season to life.
Line Dance with Billie Sunday, February 1 | 3–6 pm Nicollet Island Pavilion Free to attend | Free parking
Join us for an afternoon of welcoming, easy-to-follow line dancing led by Billie. Whether this is your first time dancing or you’ve joined us before, you’ll find a supportive, low-pressure environment where everyone is invited to participate at their own pace.
As Billie likes to say, “If you can count, you can dance.” No experience required—just come as you are and enjoy moving together in a warm, indoor space.
Light snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Ice Lantern Nights Fridays & Saturdays | 5–8 pm Graco Park & Water Works Park Free | Drop-in
Spend a winter evening outdoors with neighbors while helping create a shared ice lantern display. Park staff will guide participants through making ice lanterns, placing them throughout the park, and lighting them together.
Fire pits will be available, and indoor warming spaces will be open throughout the event so participants can step inside as needed. This relaxed, hands-on activity is welcoming to all ages.
Game Nights at Graco Park Thursdays | 4–8 pm Free | Drop-in | All ages welcome
Join park staff and community members for casual, drop-in game nights. Each week features a rotating selection of games, with space to learn, play, and connect at your own pace.
This week’s games include Genius Squared, Taboo, and Scattergories. Next week, we’ll feature Rummikub and Cribbage.
Participants are also welcome to bring a favorite game to share. Come for one round or stay awhile—this program is about connection and time together.
Galentine’s Sound Bath + Aura Portraits Saturday, February 8 | 4:30 pm Cost: $77 | Advance registration required
This small-group program offers an extended, guided wellness experience led by professional facilitators. The evening begins with a restorative sound bath focused on relaxation and stress relief, followed by individual aura portraits that offer a creative reflection of your energy.
This specialty program is designed for participants seeking dedicated time for rest and reflection. You’re welcome to attend on your own or with a friend.
Downtown Minneapolis parks are public spaces for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you—whether you come to view art, move your body, create something together, or simply be among others.
