July 4 Holiday Events

Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board plans park-based Independence Day celebrations in lieu of Minneapolis Red, White and Boom!

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) continues its plans for a series of Fourth of July events at multiple neighborhood parks and regional parks throughout the city, with details to be announced in the coming weeks. These holiday celebrations replace MPRB’s Minneapolis Red, White and Boom! fireworks event, which is expected to return to the Mississippi riverfront on July 4, 2022.

Regrettably, there simply is not enough time to create the signature event that people have come to know and love. On May 6, the Governor announced end dates for pandemic restrictions - with the Fourth of July just eight weeks away. However, it takes at least six months of planning for MPRB to safely and comfortably host 75,000 people along the riverfront for the Red, White and Boom! experience.

Instead, MPRB staff are finalizing details on new Independence Day celebrations that will take place at multiple locations throughout the park system on July 4, 2021. We look forward to sharing details on these events soon!
