Bedford is Back!

The south side of the intersection of Bedford Street and University Avenue is reopening early in the week. Curb, gutter, tracks, and more are in place and ready to be greened up with landscaping and finishing touches! Please show your support to the local businesses in the area by taking time to stop and look at the progress and visit an establishment this week.

Eastbound lane closure of Washington Avenue Bridge Tuesday, October 9 from Midnight - 6 a.m. -NEW

East Lane Construction of Malcolm Avenue Between 4th Street and Transitway

Begins Tuesday, October 9

Work is required along the east side of Malcolm Avenue between University Avenue and the Transitway to dig a trench and install electrical utilities. This work will be completed in two phases to allow for access to the businesses and residents north of 4th Street. The first phase of work will close the northbound lane of Malcolm between University and 4th Street; phase one is expected to last approximately two weeks. The second phase will be from 4th Street to the Transitway and will last approximately two weeks. Due to the lack of detour routes for businesses and residents north of 4th Street, the west lane of Malcolm will be shared with stop signs added on either side allowing one vehicle to use the lane at a time. Please drive slowly and be aware of other drivers and construction crews as the work zone is directly adjacent to the drive lane. Phase one of the Malcolm work is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 9.

Malcolm Work Phase One

Work begins Tuesday, October 9th and will last approximately two weeks.
Northbound lane of Malcolm Avenue closed between 4th Street and University Avenue; northbound detour via 27th Avenue or 30th Avenue to 4th Street.
Southbound Malcolm Avenue between 4th Street and University Avenue will remain open during this work.
Access to driveways on Malcolm Avenue maintained.

Malcolm Work Phase Two

Work begins once the first phase is complete late October; phase two is scheduled to last approximately two weeks.
The east lane of Malcolm Avenue between 4th Street and the Transitway will be closed.
Two way traffic will be maintained via stop signs allowing one vehicle at a time to use the lane.
Northbound Malcolm Avenue between 4th Street and University Avenue will remain closed during this work.
Access to all driveways on Malcolm Avenue maintained.

Prospect Park - Night Closure of University Avenue for Water Work

Tuesday, October 9th: 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.

Wednesday, October 10th: 9 p.m. - Midnight

A full closure of University Avenue is planned for the nights of Tuesday and Wednesday in an area spanning approximately 200 feet just west of 29th Avenue. This closure is needed to complete work on a major water pipe. The area being closed does not affect access to businesses or parking lots; this will only affect vehicles traveling through the area requiring a short detour one block north of University Avenue.

Night Closure Details

A 200 foot segment of University Avenue just west of 29th Avenue will be closed
-Tuesday, October 9th: 9 p.m. - 5 a.m.
-Wednesday, October 10th: 9 p.m. - Midnight
All local access will remain open to businesses and parking lots during this night work.
Through traffic detour will be one block north of University Avenue using 27th Avenue, 4th Street, and Malcolm Avenue.
Construction crews will be working outside of regular hours to complete this work; construction will occur during the hours of the road closure.

29th Avenue CLOSED: Saturday, October 6, 7 a.m. - 6 p.m.

This Saturday, 29th Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. for road paving. All access to 29th Avenue will be closed for the day including the route to the parking ramp and surface lot on 29th Avenue. Access to driveways still available via 4th Street.

Traffic Details

29th Avenue will be closed from 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.
Access to the 2829 University Avenue parking ramp and surface lot will not be available during this work.

Stadium Village: Oak Street to University Avenue 7 a.m. - 6 p.m. Monday - Saturday

University Avenue: 29th Avenue to Bedford Street 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday - Saturday

Permits may be granted for the contractor to work outside the hours outlined above. Night work will occur on Washington Avenue between Oak Street and Huron Boulevard for the next month on Monday-Saturday, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.

About the project:

The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project will link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis along Washington and University avenues via the state Capitol and the University of Minnesota. Construction began in late summer 2010 on the planned 11-mile Central Corridor line, and service will begin in 2014. The line will connect with the Hiawatha LRT line at the Metrodome station in Minneapolis and the Northstar commuter rail line at the Target Field Station. The Metropolitan Council will be the grantee of federal funds. The regional government agency is charged with building the line in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Central Corridor Management Committee, which includes commissioners from Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, provides advice and oversight. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Counties Transit Improvement Board, state of Minnesota, Ramsey and Hennepin counties' regional railroad authorities, city of St. Paul, Metropolitan Council and the Central Corridor Funders' Collaborative.
