Imagine the possibility of effortlessly traveling around the world on the soon-to-come Central Corridor LRT to an interesting variety of restaurants with live music, even on a weeknight!

Jazz on the Line, with Mira and Tom Kehoe is a free evening of jazz, Brazilian and world music. There is no cover charge, but please support the restaurant by ordering dinner and drinks.

Highlights

Victoria on the north side of University scheduled to reopen to north-south traffic on Monday, July 16. Avon will close once Victoria reopens. - NEW
Traffic maintained on the south side of University between Griggs and Rice with one lane in each direction; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
The I-94/I-35E commons will close the weekend of July 20-23 for Cedar St. bridge work. See attached map for detour routes and more information. - NEW
The southbound lane on Cedar at 12th will open to right-turns early in the week. - NEW

Upcoming work, more details in upcoming updates:

Western on the north side of University will close to north-south traffic for utility, roadway and track work beginning in early August. Arundel will be open during the closure. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks.

Traffic Details

Victoria on the north side of University scheduled to reopen to north-south traffic on Monday, July 16. Avon will close once Victoria reopens. - NEW

The I-94 and I-35E commons will close the weekend of July 20-23 for Cedar St bridge work. See attached map for detour routes and more information. - NEW

University between Rice and Robert closed to all traffic movements into fall 2012. See attached map for more information.
The following intersections between Pascal and Robert are signalized for vehicular traffic movements: Pascal, Hamline, Lexington, Victoria, Dale, Western, Marion, Rice and Robert.
Traffic on Lexington, Dale, Marion, and Rice switched to one lane in each direction at University; watch for lane shifts.

Sidewalk and Crosswalk Details

North crosswalk closed at University and Lexington, University and Dale, and University and Rice; use south, east, and west crosswalks.
Sidewalk on east side of Cedar closed between 12th and Old Columbus; use sidewalk on the west side.
Signalized pedestrian crossings installed at Hamline, Griggs, Lexington, Chatsworth, Victoria, Grotto, Dale, Mackubin, Western, Marion, Rice, and Robert.

Bus Details

Eastbound and westbound routes 16, 50, and 94B re-routed with the University closure between Rice and Robert.
Stops closed at Rice and University, MLK and John Ireland, MLK and Cedar, and Cedar at Old Columbus. Westbound stop closed at Marion and University.
Eastbound temporary bus stops in place at Aurora and Rice, Rice at Sears, and Rice at St. Anthony.
Westbound temporary bus stops in place at Rice at State Building entrance, Rice at Sears, Aurora at Rice, and Aurora at Marion.
Routes 16 and 50 bus stops located at all signalized pedestrian crossings on University from Hamline to Marion. All other stops between Hamline and Rice on University are temporarily closed.

Closure of I-94/35E Commons for the Central Corridor Light Rail Construction: July 20, 21, 22, & 23, 2012

Details:

Construction work on the Cedar Street Bridge over I-94/I-35E will occur July 20, 21, 22 & 23 which will result in the closure of the I-94/I-35E Commons Area.
On July 20, WB I-94 / SB I-35E will close at 8 p.m. and EB I-94 / NB I-35E will close at 10 p.m., reopening at 5 a.m. on July 23. Ramp closures will occur one hour before.
I-35E will be closed between 11th Street and the 10th / Wacouta exits.
I-94 will be closed between Hwy 280 and I-35E.

Access into Downtown St. Paul from I-94 and I-35E

Access into downtown St. Paul from SB I-35E can be made from Wacouta Street exit
Access into downtown St. Paul from NB I-35E can be made from Kellogg Blvd and 11th Street exits
Access into downtown St. Paul from WB I-94 can be made from 12th and 6th Street exits

Access onto I-94 & I-35E from Downtown St. Paul

Access to EB I-94 and NB I-35E can be made from downtown St. Paul on 11th Street
Access to SB I-35E can be made from Kellogg Blvd

Interstate Detours

EB I-94 motorists are advised to follow posted detour: NB Hwy 280 to EB Hwy 36 to SB I-35E
WB I-94 motorists are advised to follow posted detour: NB I-35E to WB Hwy 36 to SB Hwy 280
NB I-35E motorists are advised to follow posted detour: EB I-494 to NB Hwy 61 to WB I-94
SB I-35E motorists are advised to follow posted detour: EB I-94 to SB Hwy 61 to WB I-494

University Avenue closed to all traffic movements between Rice and Robert on June 1, 2012 into fall 2012

Details and Directions

Traveling east on University Avenue: take a left on Marion, right on Pennsylvania, and right on Jackson to continue east on University.
Traveling west on University Avenue: take a right on Jackson, left on Pennsylvania, and left on Marion to continue west on University.
Rice open to traffic north-south at University.
Robert open to traffic north-south at University when possible.
Park/MLK closed at University; a pedestrian crossing is maintained north-south at Park/MLK.
Capitol Boulevard closed at University.

About the project:

The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project will link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis along Washington and University avenues via the state Capitol and the University of Minnesota. Construction began in late summer 2010 on the planned 11-mile Central Corridor line, and service will begin in 2014. The line will connect with the Hiawatha LRT line at the Metrodome station in Minneapolis and the Northstar commuter rail line at the Target Field Station. The Metropolitan Council will be the grantee of federal funds. The regional government agency is charged with building the line in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Central Corridor Management Committee, which includes commissioners from Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, provide advice and oversight. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Counties Transit Improvement Board, state of Minnesota, Ramsey and Hennepin counties' regional railroad authorities, city of St. Paul, Metropolitan Council and the Central Corridor Funders' Collaborative.
