Public meeting on Planned Transit Service Changes Along Central Corridor

The plan will modify existing bus service to maximize connections with new Central Corridor (Green Line) light-rail service, which will begin operations in 2014. The following public meetings are scheduled:

June 19: 4-6:30pm - Brian Coyle Center

June 21: 4-6:30pm - Central Corridor Resource Center

June 23 - 1-3pm - Goodwill/Easter Seals

June 26: 11am - 1pm - Downtown Minneapolis Central Library

June 28: 4-6:30pm - Rondo Community Outreach Library

Highlights

Victoria on the north side of University will close to north-south traffic on June 18 for utility, roadway and track work. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks. Avon will be open for full traffic movements during the closure. See attached map for more information. - NEW
Western on the south side of University is scheduled to reopen to north-south traffic at University early next week; Arundel will close to north-south traffic movements after Western reopens. - NEW
Park/Martin Luther King Junior Blvd. closed to north-south traffic at University. Use alternate routes. A pedestrian crossing is maintained at Park/MLK. - NEW
Expect a short closure of the I-94/35E commons the night of June 21 from midnight to 4 a.m. for Cedar Street Bridge work. - NEW

Upcoming work in the next few weeks; more details in the next week's update:

Traffic between Hamline and Griggs will switch to its final configuration, two lanes in each direction to the west end of University Avenue in the last week of June; watch for lane shifts.

Traffic Details

Victoria on the north side of University will close to north-south traffic on June 18 for utility, roadway and track work. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks. Avon will be open for full traffic movements during the closure. See attached map for more information. - NEW
Western on the south side of University is scheduled to reopen to north-south traffic at University early next week; Arundel will close to north-south traffic movements after Western reopens. - NEW
Traffic maintained on the south side of University between Pascal and Grotto and on the north side of University between Grotto and Galtier; watch for lane shifts.
Pascal and University intersection is closed to north-south traffic movements for guideway work and rail installation for approximately one more week.
University between Rice and Robert closed to all traffic movements June 1 for approximately four months. See attached map for more information.
The following intersections between Pascal and Robert are signalized for vehicular traffic movements: Pascal, Hamline, Lexington, Victoria, Dale, Western, Marion, Rice, and Robert.
Intermittent closures of the southbound lane along Robert are expected between University and 12th.
Traffic on Lexington, Dale, Marion, and Rice switched to one lane in each direction at University; watch for lane shifts.
Traffic between Galtier and Rice switched to one lane in each direction on the south side of University; watch for lane shifts.

Sidewalk and Crosswalk Details

North crosswalk closed at University and Lexington and University and Rice; use south, east, and west crosswalks. - NEW
Sidewalk under reconstruction between Hamline and Lexington and between Mackubin and Galtier. Follow marked pedestrian detours. - NEW
A pedestrian crossing is maintained at Simpson while Pascal is closed to north-south traffic. - NEW
South crosswalk closed at Dale and University; use north, east and west crosswalks.
Crosswalk closed at 14th Street and Robert; follow pedestrian detours to Old Columbus.
Sidewalk on east side of Cedar closed between 12th and Old Columbus; use sidewalk on the west side.
Signalized pedestrian crossings installed at Hamline, Griggs, Lexington, Chatsworth, Victoria, Grotto, Dale, Mackubin, Western, Marion, Rice, and Robert.
Sidewalk closed on the north side of University betwen Prior and Cleveland; use sidewalk on the south side.

Bus Details

Eastbound and westbound routes 16, 50, and 94B re-routed with the University closure between Rice and Robert.

Stops closed at Rice and University, MLK and John Ireland, MLK and Cedar, and Cedar at Old Columbus. Westbound stop closed at Marion and University.
Eastbound temporary bus stops in place at Aurora and Rice, Rice at Sears, and Rice at St. Anthony.
Westbound temporary bus stops in place at Rice at State Building entrance, Rice at Sears, Aurora at Rice, and Aurora at Marion.
Routes 16 and 50 bus stops located at all signalized pedestrian crossings on University from Hamline to Marion. All other stops between Hamline and Rice on University are temporarily closed.

Westbound route 21 re-routed with Pascal closure.

Westbound bus stops at Hamline and University, Albert and University, Pascal and University, and Simpson and University are temporarily closed; passengers directed to stops at Hamline and Target entry drive, Snelling and University, or Snelling and Spruce Tree.

Visit www.metrotransit.org/construction for changes to bus routes during CCLRT construction.

University Avenue closed to all traffic movements between Rice and Robert on June 1, 2012 for approximately four months.

Details and Directions

Traveling east on University Avenue: take a left on Marion, right on Pennsylvania, and right on Jackson to continue east on University.

Traveling west on University Avenue: take a right on Jackson, left on Pennsylvania, and left on Marion to continue west on University.

Rice open to traffic north-south at University.

Robert open to traffic north-south at University when possible.

Park/MLK closed at University; a pedestrian crossing is maintained north-south at Park/MLK.

Capitol Boulevard closed at University.

Intersection Closure Begins June 18 - North side of Victoria Street at University Avenue

North side of Victoria at University scheduled to close on June 18, 2012 for approximately 28 days for utility, roadway and track work.

Closure Details

Victoria closed to north-south traffic at University; only north side of University to be constructed.
Avon will be open to north-south movements during the closure period.

Traffic Details

Northbound traffic traveling along Victoria from south of University go east on Aurora, north on Avon, west on Sherburne, then proceed north on Victoria.
Southbound traffic traveling along Victoria from north of University go east on Sherburne, south on Avon, west on Aurora, then proceed south on Victoria.

About the project:

The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project will link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis along Washington and University avenues via the state Capitol and the University of Minnesota. Construction began in late summer 2010 on the planned 11-mile Central Corridor line, and service will begin in 2014. The line will connect with the Hiawatha LRT line at the Metrodome station in Minneapolis and the Northstar commuter rail line at the Target Field Station. The Metropolitan Council will be the grantee of federal funds. The regional government agency is charged with building the line in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Central Corridor Management Committee, which includes commissioners from Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, provides advice and oversight. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Counties Transit Improvement Board, state of Minnesota, Ramsey and Hennepin counties' regional railroad authorities, city of St. Paul, Metropolitan Council and the Central Corridor Funders' Collaborative..
