Highlights

The I-94 and I-35E commons is closed the weekend of May 18-21 for Cedar St bridge demolition. See attached map for detour routes and more information. - NEW
Traffic on Dale at University will switch to one lane in each direction on the west side of the intersection early next week; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
Traffic on Rice at University will switch to one lane in each direction on the east side of the intersection early next week; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
Traffic on Marion at University will switch to one lane in each direction on the west side of the intersection early next week; watch for lane shifts. - NEW
Hamline intersection is closed to north-south traffic at University on the north side of the intersection to complete utility, track and roadway work; the closure is expected to last approximately three more weeks. Griggs is open to north-south traffic during the closure. See attached map for detour routes.
Traffic switched to the south side of Universeity between Griggs and Chatsworth; upon the switch, Dunlap, Oxford, and Chatsworth closed on the north side of University. Traffic maintained on the north side of University between Chatsworth and Galtier; watch for lane shifts.
Westbound University traffic between Prior and Cleveland restored to the north side of University; watch for lane shifts.

Upcoming work in the next few weeks; more details in next week's update:

University between Park/MLK and Robert will close to all traffic movements early June.
Cleveland is scheduled to be closed to north-south traffic at University for track installation after Memorial Day for approximately two weeks.

Traffic switched to the south side of University between Pascal and Chatsworth. Traffic maintained on the north side of University between Chatsworth and Galtier; watch for lane shifts.

The following intersections between Pascal and Robert street are signalzied for vehicular traffic movements: Pascal, Hamline, Lexington, Victoria, Dale, Western, Marion, and Rice. All other intersections between Chatsworth and Galtier are closed to thru traffic on the south side of University until work is complete on the south side.
Intermittent closures of the southbound lane along Robert are expected between University and 12th.
Traffic between Galtier and MLK switched to one lane in each direction on the south side of University; watch for lane shifts.

Sidewalk and Crosswalk Details

Sidewalk under reconstruction between Grotto and Mackubin. Follow marked pedestrian detours. - NEW
South crosswalk closed at Dale and University; use north, east and west crosswalks.
Crosswalk closed at 14th St and Robert; follow pedestrian detours to Old Columbus.
Sidewalk on east side of Cedar closed between 12th and Old Columbus; use sidewalk on the west side.
Signalized pedestrian crossings installed at Hamline, Griggs, Lexington, Chatsworth, Victoria, Grotto, Dale, Mackubin, Western, Marion, Rice, and Robert.
Sidewalk closed on the north side of University between Prior and Cleveland; use sidewalk on the south side.

Bus Details

Routes 16 and 50 bus stops located at all signalized pedestrian crossings on University from Hamline to Rice. All other stops between Hamline and Rice on University are temporarily closed.
Westbound route 16 bus stop at Albert closed; eastbound route 16 bus stops open to all regular stops west of Hamline.

Route 21 re-routed during construction:

Bus stops at Hamline and University, Albert and University, and Pascal and University are temporarily closed; passengers directed to temporary stops at Pascal and Wal-Mart entry drive or Simpson and University.
Bus stops on Hamline north of I-94 are closed, temporary bus stops in place at Pascal and Wal-Mart entry drive; westbound bus stop in place at St. Anthony west of Hamline.

Visit www.metrotransit.org/construction for changes to bus routes during CCLRT construction.

Hamline and University Intersection Closure Began May 17 - North Side

Hamline at University closed on the north side of the intersection on May 17, 2012. This closure will impact the north side of Hamline for approximately three more weeks while crews complete utility, track and roadway work.

Closure Details

Hamline closed to north-south traffic at University; only north side of University to be constructed during this period.
Griggs to remain open to north-south movements during the closure period.

Traffic Details

Northbound traffic traveling along Hamline from south of University, go west on University, north on Snelling, east on Minnehaha to proceed north on Hamline.
Southbound traffic traveling along Hamline from north of University, go east on Minnehaha, south on Lexington then west on University to proceed south on Hamline.
Pedestrian traffic is detoured to Pascal during the closure period.

About the project:

The Central Corridor Light Rail Transit Project will link downtown St. Paul and downtown Minneapolis along Washington and University avenues via the state Capitol and the University of Minnesota. Construction began in late summer 2010 on the planned 11-mile Central Corridor line, and service will begin in 2014. The line will connect with the Hiawatha LRT line at the Metrodome station in Minneapolis and the Northstar commuter rail line at the Target Field Station. The Metropolitan Council will be the grantee of federal funds. The regional government agency is charged with building the line in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The Central Corridor Management Committee, which includes commissioners from Ramsey and Hennepin counties, the mayors of St. Paul and Minneapolis and the University of Minnesota, provides advice and oversight. Funding is provided by the Federal Transit Administration, Counties Transit Improvement Board, state of Minnesota, Ramsey and Hennepin counties' regional railroad authorities, city of St. Paul, Metropolitan Council and the Central Corridor Funders' Collaborative..
