To support faster, more reliable bus travel during this year's I-94 construction. Metro Transit, in partnership with the City of St. Paul and Ramsey County, will install a temporary westbound bus lane on Marshall Avenue between Wilder and Cretin avenues. The purpose of this temporary bus lane is to mitigate westbound transit delay related to changes in traffic patterns during road construction. Work, including signage and pavement markings, is expected to take place June 9-13, ahead of the METRO B Line Launch on June 14.
To create space for this lane, parking will be restricted on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; bikes and right turns are allowed. During these hours, approximately 40 spaces will be unavailable westbound along Cleveland and Cretin avenues. The temporary bus lane is expected to be in place until late 2025. The existing bus lane west of Cretin remains unchanged.
Outreach efforts are underway in the temporary bus lane area.
Starting June 14, the B Line will begin service, replacing Route 21 with faster and more reliable service between Minneapolis and St. Paul along Lake Street and Marshall and Selby avenues.
To provide local transit access along parts of the corridor, local bus routes 27, 38, and 72 will also launch on the same day.
Route 27
Offers hourly service all days of the week connecting Uptown Transit Station to Lake Street & Minnehaha via Lake Street and 26th/28th streets.
Provides 30-minute service from Minnetonka to Highland Park/Veterans Home, replacing routes 23 and 612. Serves Opus, Hopkins, Uptown, South Minneapolis, Highland Park/Veterans Home, with service overlapping the B Line between Excelsior Boulevard and Lyndale Avenue primarily along Lake Street.
Route 72 (formerly route 70)
Offers 30-minute service all days of the week through St. Paul, connecting the Midway shopping area, Selby Avenue, downtown St. Paul, and Sun Ray Transit Center.
