A bus at a future B Line station. B Line service will begin on June 14.
As we near the B Line opening on June 14, 2025, the B Line newsletter will focus on what to expect with the new service while keeping you updated on final project work.
More information will be shared in the coming months about opening day celebration activities and changes to local bus service that will complement the B Line and keep customers connected. Stay tuned!
Construction of the B Line and Lake Street Improvements was almost entirely completed in 2023 and 2024. The following work remains to be done this spring:
-
Traffic signals: Crews are completing final signal work and installing pedestrian push buttons along Lake Street. Signal work at Marshall & Cretin is scheduled to be complete by early May.
-
Street lighting: Final streetlight repairs will be completed throughout spring.
-
Bus-only lanes: In May, crews will finish painting bus-only lanes on Lake Street between Chicago and 4th avenues and on Marshall Avenue from Cretin Avenue across the Lake-Marshall Bridge.
-
Pylons and real-time signs: Installation of new station pylons is complete and the existing pylon at eastbound Lake Street/Midtown will be replaced with a new one in the coming weeks. Crews are currently working to get real-time NexTrip signs up and running at each platform.
-
Fare collection equipment: Installation of ticket machines and Go-To Card readers is complete, and crews are working to bring the machines online.
-
Security cameras and emergency telephones: Security cameras and emergency telephones are being installed through early May at each platform.
