 Detour signage for southbound France Avenue is now in place. Phased construction will allow France Avenue to remain open to northbound through-traffic for the duration of work, detouring southbound through-traffic to Xerxes Avenue between 39th Street and 60th Street. Local traffic between station intersections will be able to travel northbound and southbound.
Traffic control and pedestrian access signage is in place along France Avenue.
Dates are approximate and subject to change. More details about construction detours and signage will be made available as construction progresses.
 Week of Nov. 11:
- Construction continues with electrical work, grading, and concrete work.
Week of Nov. 18:
- Construction will continue with sidewalk construction.
- Northbound, southbound, eastbound, and westbound vehicle traffic can travel through the intersection.
- Following the completion of civil construction, work is focused on installation of permanent traffic signals and E Line platform amenities. We will update this section when we have timelines for this work.
Week of Nov. 11:
- Construction continues with pavement removals and utility work at the France & Sunnyside intersection.
- 44th Street will open to thru traffic on both sides of France Avenue.
- Sunnyside Ave will be closed to traffic west of France Ave.
Week of Nov. 18:
- Construction will continue with conduit crossings, curb and gutter construction, and asphalt work on the Sunnyside intersection.
Week of Nov. 11:
- Construction continues with grading and sidewalk construction.
Week of Nov. 18:
- Construction will continue with grading and sidewalk work.
- Final striping and removal of traffic controls.
Fridays from 10 to 10:30 a.m., Metro Transit staff will discuss remaining construction for 50th and France in-person at the intersection. Meet at the northwest corner of the intersection.
Week of Nov. 11:
- Construction continues with remaining sidewalk construction north of 50th Street.
- Tree grates and pavers will be installed on the southwest corner.
- Signal work and remaining sidewalk construction will happen on the southeast corner.
Week of Nov. 18:
- Construction will continue with remaining sidewalk construction on the southeast corner.
- The intersection will open to all four directions of traffic following completion of civil construction.
Week of Nov. 11:

Week of Nov. 18:
- Construction will continue with roadway paving and asphalt and underground electrical work.
- Following the completion of civil construction, work will focus on installation of permanent traffic signals and E Line platform amenities. We will update this section when we have timelines for this work.

- Xcel will relocate a power pole and final sidewalk construction will be completed on the southbound platform.

While major construction of E Line stations is happening at these locations this year, final completion of stations will occur next year as Metro Transit prepares for the beginning of E Line service. Activities in 2025 will include installation of station amenities (including shelters, real-time signs, bike racks, and benches) and equipment testing. These activities are expected to take only a few days at each site and will cause minimal disruption to traffic.
Metro Transit is seeking your feedback on Network Now, a plan designed to grow ridership, expand job access, and better meet the region’s changing mobility needs. This plan will directly affect bus service levels (both local bus and bus rapid transit) in the E Line corridor and the region through 2027. Please read and comment on the plan by Nov. 15.
In addition to stations, E Line construction activities will also include installation of fiber optic communication infrastructure and construction of additional pedestrian, traffic signal, bikeway, and intersection improvements delivered in partnership with Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis.
- Work in the corridor will include station construction, utility work, pavement and intersection improvements, and traffic signal changes.
- Expect temporary lane restrictions and marked detours for traffic.
- Pedestrian access will remain for businesses and residences.
- Buses will experience detours during construction. Up-to-date information about bus detours and temporary stop locations can be found at metrotransit.org/alerts and by subscription to Rider Alerts.
- Southbound Route 6 buses will be detoured off France Avenue during E Line Construction.
- Routes 6C,6E and 6K are detoured off Sheridan Ave from 39th St to 40th St. Detour map
- Route 46 buses will be detoured off 50th Street between Ewing Avenue and Halifax Avenue.

- Construction will be staged at each station intersection to allow for vehicular traffic flow.
