Crews are completing concrete work at the future Lake & Dean station
Construction is active along Lake Street and Lagoon Avenue in Minneapolis, with major work currently between France Avenue and 22nd Avenue.
To see where work will be happening, and what is being built, please view the interactive project map.
Staff are available to attend community events or meetings to connect and answer questions about construction. To have staff visit your next event, contact bline@metrotransit.org
As crews complete sidewalk, curb, and station work, one of the final items to complete in this year’s construction process is a mill and overlay to provide a new, smoother pavement surface. A mill and overlay process involves grinding the top layer of asphalt off the street and using a large machine to recycle and re-pave the asphalt.
The next stage of mill and overlay work will take place beginning Oct.7 between Lake & Portland and Lake & 21st Avenue.
Crews will complete the north half of Lake Street first, before turning around and completing the south side, with traffic limited to one lane in each direction during the process.
Schedule
-
Crews continue to install underground fiber optic cable along the corridor.
-
Separate from B Line and Lake Street improvements, CenterPoint Energy is updating its infrastructure and gas meters in some locations. CenterPoint Energy staff may contact residents and businesses about potential short-term gas outages as they upgrade equipment. For more information on CenterPoint’s work, view its project website.
-
Almost all B Line shelters have been installed. There are no shelter installations scheduled for this week. Remaining shelter installations at Lake & Nicollet and Lake St./Midtown will be completed in the coming weeks.
-
Shelters will not be available for customer use immediately upon installation and will be fenced off. Crews will need to complete several tasks to ensure shelters are safe and ready for regular route service. Shelters are expected to be available for customer use later this year.
Current closure information
-
Crews will have rolling, temporary lane closures on Lake Street between Excelsior Boulevard and Blaisdell Avenue in the coming weeks as they paint crosswalks, traffic lanes, and bus-only lanes.
-
The north side of Lake Street between 4th and 21st avenues is closed, maintaining one lane in each direction for through traffic. Additional traffic control changes are in place for MnDOT’s Hi-Lake Project on Lake Street east of 21st Avenue. Learn more about this project.
