Detour signage for southbound France Avenue is now in place. Phased construction will allow France Avenue to remain open to northbound through traffic for the duration of work, detouring southbound through traffic to Xerxes Avenue between 39th Street and 60th Street. Local traffic between station intersections will be able to travel northbound and southbound.
Traffic control and pedestrian access signage is in place along France Avenue.
Dates are approximate and subject to change. More details about construction detours and signage will be made available as construction progresses.
- Northbound vehicular traffic can travel through the intersection from south to north.
- Detours for this construction will follow 39th Street, Xerxes Avenue, and 44th Street.
- Construction will include partial street reconstruction, traffic signal reconstruction, new station platforms, new sidewalk, and new pedestrian ramps.
- New bus pad and roadway pavement will be constructed starting on the west side of Sheridan Avenue. Southbound traffic is anticipated to be reopened by the second week of September.
- Construction of the bus platform pavement and shelter foundations will occur after the roadway pavement is complete with installation of shelters, pylons, and other station features to follow.
- Sidewalks will remain open on at least one side of the street and pedestrian access will be maintained to homes and businesses.
Week of Aug. 26:
- Construction continues with grading, curb construction, and roadway paving.
Week of Sept. 2:
- Traffic will remain open northbound, but it will switch from the east side of the street to the west.
- Construction will continue with electrical work, grading, curb construction, and roadway paving.
Week of Aug. 26:
- Construction continues with grading, underground electrical and communications work, and roadway paving.
Week of Sept. 2:
- Construction will continue with removals, grading, and curb and roadway construction.
Week of Aug. 26:
- Construction continues with remaining curb construction, and roadway paving.
- Work will start on platform and sidewalk paving, and shelter foundations.
Week of Sept. 2:
- Traffic control will be adjusted to shift work to the west side of France Avenue and work will start on removals of pavement and curbs.

This week 50th Street at France Avenue will reopen to eastbound and westbound traffic. In the coming weeks, one direction of traffic on 50th Street will be temporarily restricted on the east side of France Avenue to allow the installation of an underground stormwater structure.

- Construction will continue with boring, grading, and underground utility work.

Several stations will also be constructed in 2024 through coordinated projects with Metro Transit’s partners including:
In addition to stations, E Line construction activities will also include installation of fiber optic communication infrastructure and construction of additional pedestrian, traffic signal, bikeway, and intersection improvements delivered in partnership with Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis.
- Work in the corridor will include station construction, utility work, pavement and intersection improvements, and traffic signal changes.
- Expect temporary lane restrictions and marked detours for traffic.
- Pedestrian access will remain for businesses and residences.
- Buses will experience detours during construction. Up-to-date information about bus detours and temporary stop locations can be found at metrotransit.org/alerts and by subscription to Rider Alerts.
- Southbound Route 6 buses will be detoured off France Avenue during E Line Construction.
- Route 46 buses will be detoured off 50th Street between Ewing Avenue and Halifax Avenue.

- Construction will be staged at each station intersection to allow for vehicular traffic flow.
