Utility work        

• Crews continue to install underground fiber optic cable along the corridor.             

• Separate from B Line and Lake Street improvements, CenterPoint Energy is updating its infrastructure and gas meters in some locations. CenterPoint Energy staff may contact residents and businesses about potential short-term gas outages as they upgrade equipment. For more information on CenterPoint’s work, view its project website.      

Current closure information         

• The right lane of eastbound Excelsior Boulevard and Lake Street between Market Plaza and the Lake Street/Excelsior Boulevard intersection are currently closed, maintaining one lane for through traffic. Both lanes of westbound Excelsior Boulevard are open.      

• The one-way portion of Dean Parkway closed at Lake Street starting Aug. 20.  

• Oakland Avenue is currently closed to the north at Lake Street.  

• The north side of Lake Street between East Bde Maka Ska Parkway and Blaisdell Avenue is currently closed, maintaining one lane for through traffic. Additional traffic control changes may be made near the City of Minneapolis’ 1st Avenue project. Learn more about this project.     

• The north side of Lake Street between 4th and 21st avenues is closed, maintaining one lane in each direction for through traffic. Additional traffic control changes are in place for MnDOT’s Hi-Lake Project on Lake Street east of 21st Avenue. Learn more about this project.    

Upcoming construction activities        

Lake and France    

• Preparation work for construction of a bus driver restroom facility began this week.    

• Next week, crews will begin utility work at the bus stop area.

Excelsior Boulevard and Market Plaza       

• This week, crews began concrete removals on the concrete median. 

• Next week, crews will begin curb and gutter work. 

• This work includes the use of heavy machinery, and impacts such as vibrations, loud noise, and dust and debris are to be expected.     

Lake Street and West Bde Maka Ska Parkway      

• This week, crews completed concrete removals, conduit crossings, and tree excavations on the north side of the intersection.  

• Next week, crews will begin curb and gutter work as well as bus pad paving. 

• This work includes the use of heavy machinery, and impacts such as vibrations, loud noise, and dust and debris are to be expected.     

Lagoon and Dupont, Emerson, Fremont, Humboldt, Irving, James, and Knox avenues, E. Bde Maka Ska Parkway   

• Crews will be striping lanes and crosswalks at these intersections in the coming weeks. 

• No additional work is planned at these intersections until later in the year, when crews will return to complete any final finishing and cleanup work.       

Lake Street and Knox and James avenues 

• This week, crews completed concrete work at the corners at these intersections. 

• Next week, crews will begin work on the curbs for the protected bike lane. 

• Centerpoint Energy is also working in this area and is expected to restore their construction areas next week.

Lake Street and Irving, Humboldt, and Holmes avenues     

• This week, crews continued concrete work at the intersection corners and in the bikeway, which will run from Knox Avenue to Humboldt Avenue. This work will continue for two more weeks. 

• Centerpoint Energy is also working in this area and is expected to restore their construction areas next week.

Lake Street and Fremont and Emerson avenues        

• This week, crews completed hydrant relocations and storm sewer work at Lake and Emerson and completed curb and gutter work at both intersections. 

• Next week, crews will begin underground electrical work and pavement patching at these intersections. 

• This work includes the use of heavy machinery, and impacts such as vibrations, loud noise, and dust and debris are to be expected.      

Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue         

• Mill and overlay work has been completed at this intersection, with striping of lanes and crosswalks to be completed in the coming weeks.

Lake Street and Grand Avenue     

• This week, crews completed the new pedestrian median.

Lake Street and Blaisdell Avenue

Lake Street and Portland, Oakland, Park, and Columbus avenues    

• This week, crews completed storm sewer work at Lake & Portland, Lake & Oakland and Lake & Park, and began curb and gutter work at all four intersections. 

• Next week, crews will complete curb and gutter work and pavement patching at the remaining two corners at Park and Portland avenues.

Lake Street and Chicago Avenue   

• This week, crews completed bus pad paving and pavement patching.  

• Next week, crews will begin underground electrical work and pour concrete for the bus platform.

Lake Street and Elliot Avenue 

• This week, crews began curb and gutter work.
