Crews completing curb and gutter work at Lake & Emerson
Construction is active along Lake Street and Lagoon Avenue in Minneapolis, with major work currently between East Bde Maka Ska Parkway and 22nd Avenue.
Crews will complete an overnight traffic switch from the south side of the street to the north side of the street on Lake Street from 21st Avenue to 4th Avenue from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the evening of Friday, July 19 into Saturday, July 20.
Crews will start at 21st Avenue and move west to 4th Avenue. The work requires large vehicles and water blasting to remove old striping before painting new striping. Noise will include large vehicle noise including beeping, engine noises, and a loud spraying sound from the water blaster.
Mill and overlay work could begin as early as Aug. 5
As crews complete sidewalk, curb, and station work, one of the final items to complete in this year’s construction process includes a mill and overlay to provide a new, smoother pavement surface. A mill and overlay process involves taking the top layer of asphalt off the street and using a large machine to recycle and re-pave the asphalt.
This work involves temporary street limitations or closures, large machines that produce loud grinding noises and beeping, and smoke/odor. More information on this process, including a schedule, will be shared in upcoming weeks.
