Route 21 continues to operate on Lake Street during construction
Construction is active along Lake Street and Lagoon Avenue in Minneapolis, with major work currently between East Bde Maka Ska Parkway and 22nd Avenue.

Separately from the B Line and Lake Street improvements, CenterPoint Energy is updating its infrastructure and gas meters in some locations. Current closure information
- The south side of the intersection of Lagoon Avenue and Emerson will be closed starting today (Friday, June 14).
- The south leg of the intersection of Lagoon Avenue and Fremont will be closed starting today (Friday, June 14).
- The south leg of the intersection of Lagoon Avenue and Knox Avenue continues to be closed.
- The south side of Lake Street and Holmes Avenue continues to be closed due to the CenterPoint Energy project. For more information on CenterPoint’s work, view its project website. This intersection is scheduled to reopen the week of June 24.
- Starting The south lanes of Lagoon Avenue between Hennepin Avenue and East Bde Maka Ska Parkway are currently closed, maintaining at least one lane for through traffic in each direction.
- The south side of Lake Street between East Bde Maka Ska Parkway and 21st Avenue is currently closed, maintaining at least one lane in each direction for through traffic. Additional traffic control changes may be made near the City of Minneapolis’ 1st Avenue project. Learn more about this project here.
Bus lane installation
- Installation of the red bus lane on East Lake Street between 44th and 27th avenues was completed last week.
Upcoming construction activities
Lake/Lagoon and Dupont Avenue
- CenterPoint Energy continues to work in the intersection. This work may include temporary road closures.
- Starting the week of June 17, crews will begin concrete removals and storm sewer work. This work includes using a backhoe and a skid steer, two pieces of large machinery. Vibrations and noise from high powered machinery are to be expected.
Lagoon Avenue and Emerson and Fremont Avenues
- Work at this intersection is expected to begin the week of June 17. This work includes removals, storm and sewer work, and underground fiber optic work, as well as curb and gutter work and concrete work. The south side of these intersections will close to traffic.
- This work will require crews to operate heavy machinery at . Potential impacts include vibrations and sawing as well as loud sounds generally heard with construction.
Lagoon Avenue and Humboldt, Irving, and James
- Crews continue concrete work at these three intersections. Work is expected to last several weeks. Potential impacts caused by heavy machinery used to do this concrete work include vibration, machinery noise from the concrete mixers and trucks, as well as hammering and cutting noises.
Lagoon Avenue and Knox
- Intersection closure and parking restrictions will continue for multiple weeks.
- Work at the intersection is expected to resume the week of June 17.
Lake Street and James Avenue
- This week, crews completed pavement patching and continues concrete work. This work includes the use of heavy machinery with potential impacts that include vibrations, hammering, sawing, and other loud noises associated with construction.
Lake Street and Irving, Humboldt, and Holmes Avenues
Lake Street and Fremont and Emerson Avenues
- Work at these two intersections is expected to begin the week of June 17. Work will first include concrete removals then transition to underground electrical work the following week. This work requires the use of heavy machinery alongside potential impacts of dust, vibrations, and loud noise generally heard with construction. Lake Street and Lyndale Avenue
- Traffic at this intersection shifted to the north side of the street the weekend of June 8-9.
- This week, crews completed concrete removals.
- The week of June 17, crews will complete storm sewer work, underground fiber optic work, and curb and gutter work, as well as pavement patching. This work requires the use of heavy machinery alongside potential impacts of loud noise, drilling, dust, and vibrations.
Lake Street and Pillsbury Avenue
- Traffic at this intersection shifted to the north side of the street the weekend of June 8-9.
- Crews completed concrete removals as well as curb and gutter work.
- The week of June 17, crews will complete underground electrical work and pavement patching. This work requires the use of heavy machinery alongside potential impacts of dust, loud noise, and vibrations.

Lake Street and Elliot, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, Avenues
- Crews completed concrete work in these intersections. No work is scheduled for the next few weeks.
Lake Street and 14th, 15th, Bloomington, 16th, 17th, and 18th Avenues
- Crews are actively completing concrete work at these intersections as well as pouring the platform at Lake Street and Bloomington Avenue. Concrete work will continue for several weeks. This work requires the use of heavy machinery alongside potential impacts such as dust, vibrations, and loud noise that is generally heard with construction.
Lake Street and Cedar Avenue
- Crews completed underground electrical work for traffic signals as well as pavement patching.
- The week of June 17, crews will continue their underground electrical work of the station platform, as well as platform pouring, and begin concrete work. This work requires a large cement truck, alongside potential impacts such as dust, vibrations, and sidewalk detours to avoid wet concrete.
Lake Street and Longfellow Avenue
- Crews began concrete work that is scheduled to last for multiple weeks. This work requires the use of heavy machinery alongside potential impacts such as dust, vibrations, and loud noise generally heard with construction.
Lake Street and 19th and 21st Avenues
- This week, crews completed underground electrical work.
