Construction of the METRO F Line on Central Avenue (also known as Highway 65) is expected to begin in 2028, instead of 2025 as initially planned, to coordinate with Minnesota Department of Transportation work on this road.
The construction of F Line stations on University Avenue (also known as Highway 47) and 53rd Avenue may start before 2028.
MnDOT’s improvements will make Central Avenue in Columbia Heights and Minneapolis safer and easier to get around and will make the road function better for everyone who uses it.
Metro Transit and MnDOT are working together to design the F Line stations and other improvements and will seek public input as the projects advance.
The F Line’s opening date is to be determined.
To start designing F Line stations, Metro Transit contracted a firm to conduct field surveys to learn what’s underground such as pipes and wires and complete geotechnical investigations to learn about soil conditions under future stations. That work is nearly finished. Now, the design team is making traffic models for the area and figuring out where construction might affect areas with contaminated soil.
