The shelter foundation is complete at the Selby & Arundel station

First METRO B Line shelters to be installed week of September 11 

Installation of shelters and other station amenities will begin at some stations as early as the week of September 11.  

Shelter installations will begin at Marshall & Cleveland and Marshall & Fairview. 

Shelter installations do not require road closures but will require the use of a small crane in the sidewalk/parking area and are usually completed within one working day 
Crews will be on site to detour traffic or pedestrians for any temporary impacts to sidewalks or travel lanes 
Shelter installations are not as loud as other forms of construction activities, but may have sounds of drilling, crews communicating, and large vehicle noises 
Shelters will not be available for customer use immediately upon installation and will be fenced off. Crews will need to complete several tasks to ensure shelters are safe and ready for regular route service. Shelters are currently planned to be available later this year as the first phase of construction is completed.

Minneapolis

Complete 

This week, crews completed:  

All concrete work at Lake & Minnehaha, Lake & 27th, Lake & 33rd, Lake & 39th, Lake & 42nd, Lake & 43rd, Lake & West River Parkway 
Initial concrete work at Lake & 31st, Lake & 36th, Lake & 45th, Lake & 47th 
Underground electrical work and concrete work at Lake & 44th

Upcoming  

Next week, crews will complete:  

Concrete median work at Lake & 28th

All concrete work at Lake & 34th, Lake & 36th, Lake & 39th, Lake & 42nd, Lake & 43rd, Lake & 45th, Lake & 47th

Mill and overlay of Lake Street between Minnehaha Avenue and West River Parkway could begin as early as September 20. More information on this work including timelines and staging will be available next week.

Mill and overlay is the paving process of removing the top few inches of an existing asphalt lot (milling) then putting on a fresh new coat of asphalt (overlay).

What’s being constructed on Lake Street?   

Construction at station locations includes partial street reconstruction, new station platforms, new street, new sidewalk, new traffic signals, and new pedestrian ramps.     

Construction at non-station intersections includes curb ramp work, new sidewalk, roadway improvements, and signal improvements.    

Hiawatha Avenue to 36th Avenue         
36th Avenue to Mississippi River Boulevard

Two-way traffic is being maintained along Lake Street with lane and parking restrictions in place.  

Work started at Lake Street & Minnehaha Avenue and is traveling west to east, ending at Lake Street & West River Parkway. Crews are reconstructing sidewalk and pedestrian corners at:   

Lake & Minnehaha  
Lake & 27th  
Lake & 31st  
Lake & 33rd   
Lake & 36th  
Lake & 39th  
Lake & 42nd  
Lake & 43rd  
Lake & 45th  
Lake & 47th  
Lake & W River Parkway

A pedestrian median is also being constructed at Lake & 34th Avenue.

Crews are constructing B Line stations at:  

Lake & Minnehaha  
Lake & 31st  
Lake & 36th  
Lake & 44th

This fall, construction will include a mill and overlay as well as lane restriping.  Sidewalks will remain open on at least one side of the street and pedestrian access will be maintained to homes and businesses.   

St. Paul

Marshall & Otis     

Construction will include partial street reconstruction, new station platforms, new street, new sidewalk, new pedestrian ramps.        

The intersection will be open to four-way traffic, with traffic lane restrictions along Marshall Avenue. Work is currently being completed on the south side of the intersection.    

Underway:           

Crews completed curb and gutter work and bus pad paving

Upcoming:     

Crews will begin underground electrical work and work on the concrete station areas
The installation of shelters, pylons, and other station features will follow shortly thereafter at both the north and south sections of the intersection, with all major work scheduled to be complete by early fall.

Marshall & Cretin     

Construction will include partial street reconstruction, new station platforms, new street, new sidewalk, new pedestrian ramps.        

The intersection will be open to four-way traffic, with traffic lane restrictions along Marshall Avenue. Work is currently being completed on the south side of the intersection.    

Underway:           

Crews completed curb and gutter work, sanitary sewer work, and bus pad paving

Upcoming:     

Crews will begin underground electrical work and work on the concrete station areas
The installation of shelters, pylons, and other station features will follow shortly thereafter at both the north and south sections of the intersection, with all major work scheduled to be complete by early fall

Selby & Western-Arundel

Initial construction work is complete at the eastbound Selby & Arundel platform of this station. Due to utility work in the area, construction of the westbound Selby & Western platform will begin and be completed in spring 2024.

Roadway & sidewalk construction activities are complete at these locations

Crews have completed all pavement work at these stations and the intersections are re-opened to traffic.

Some stops may still be temporarily closed at some intersections along the corridor. Please use the nearest stops to these intersections.
