Northern end points for the METRO Purple Line are being reviewed to meet federal funding criteria; public comment period expected in spring
The public will be invited to participate in a comment period on the results of this Route Modification Study in the spring. Staff are continuing to study three potential northern end points for the proposed METRO Purple Line BRT – Maplewood Mall Transit Center, I-35 & Co. Rd. E Park & Ride in Vadnais Heights, and Century College on the White Bear Lake-Mahtomedi border.
A review of criteria such as cost, ridership and other factors for each end point are being evaluated to confirm which options would qualify for federal funding. More details on events, activities and opportunities for involvement will be forthcoming.
We do not do this work alone. We have been connecting with city and county leaders to both understand their needs and collaborate on next steps for the project’s Route Modification Study, including participation in the City of Maplewood’s engagement process.
Purple Line project office, Metropolitan Council and Ramsey County staff are working to enhance accessibility and bring more opportunity to the east metro with fast, frequent bus rapid transit (BRT) service. These buses make fewer stops than local bus routes, significantly speeding up travel time, satisfying the long-term regional mobility and accessibility needs of businesses and the traveling public, and supporting sustainable development. This line will provide access to affordable, reliable transportation for people to get to and from work and other locations.
As part of the METRO network, the Purple Line will feature enhancements to service and amenities that elevate the customer experience. As the METRO network grows, the Purple Line is planned to share and/or have direct connections to the existing METRO Green Line, under construction Gold Line, and the future G, and H lines.
