During a fifth special session in October, the State Legislature passed a bonding bill that included full funding to deliver the METRO D Line project.
With funding in place, Metro Transit is advancing the METRO D Line with construction starting in spring 2021 and service planned to start by the end of 2022.
Based on community feedback received in 2019 and early 2020, Metro Transit completed the engineering plans for the METRO D Line, resulting in a construction-ready project.
Metro Transit staff are now working with residents, businesses, and property owners along the corridor to communicate plans for construction. This includes utility work, acquiring right of way and temporary easements for construction, and communicating any temporary impacts to access.
As the construction schedule is finalized, Metro Transit will share more information on the timing and duration of construction activities.
The best way to stay up to date on construction plans is to subscribe to METRO D Line Update emails.

The METRO D Line project plans include a station at Chicago Avenue & 38th Street.
Following the killing of George Floyd at this intersection in May 2020 and the subsequent community response, this planned station has been removed from the D Line construction plans at this time.
Metro Transit will continue to participate in the ongoing discussions about the future intersection design with the City of Minneapolis and the community. At such time that the intersection of 38th and Chicago design is decided, the construction of this station would occur outside of the main construction.

Metro Transit shelter used as space for community items
Metro Transit is planning improvements in the Chicago / Emerson / Fremont corridor with the METRO D Line bus rapid transit (BRT) project. BRT brings better amenities, faster service, and a more comfortable ride to our region's busiest bus corridors. D Line station construction is planned to begin in 2021, and service is planned to start in 2022.
