Tax-filing procrastinators also have a downtown Minneapolis Post Office option this year

For years, people mailing their income taxes at the last minute have made a tax-day pilgrimage to the postal facility at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

As a reminder, filers have another option that’s open until midnight tomorrow, April 18: the Minneapolis Main Post Office, located at 100 S. 1st St., between Hennepin Avenue and Central Avenue. Free customer parking is available in the lot beneath the ramp at the north end of the post office building.

Metered parking is available along South 1st Street. Mail collections will also be made until midnight from the blue boxes in front of the Minneapolis Main Post Office.

The Airport Post Office is still an option this year, but visitors should note there is limited parking and a lot of construction in the area, so the Postal Service is advising that the downtown Minneapolis location is likely the better plan. Both the downtown and the airport locations will offer retail and collection services until midnight.

The Airport Post Office is located at 5001 Northwest Dr. Take the Post Road exit off of MN Hwy. 5 and follow the signs through the construction area.

There will also be a temporary mobile Post Office available on Post Road tomorrow.

The deadline for filing income taxes is typically April 15. The deadline this year is April 18 because the 15th fell on a Saturday, and Monday the 17th is Emancipation Day in the District of Columbia.
