Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility Will Host 30th Anniversary Open House
For the past 30 years, the Olmsted Waste-to-Energy Facility (OWEF) has produced clean, renewable energy from our wastes that cannot be reduced, reused, recycled, or composted.
The Environmental Resources Department will recognize this milestone with an open house and free paper shredding event on Saturday, April 22, 2017, from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the OWEF. Community members are encouraged to take a tour of the facility. As part of the celebration, households may bring up to 5 file boxes of white office paper for free shredding and recycling.
The OWEF is located at 301 Silver Creek Road NE, Rochester, MN 55906. For more information, call us at 507-328-7070 or visit olmstedwaste.com.

encourage others to participate by sharing photos of their group in action on
Facebook using the tag #litterbitbetter.

the environment, but they have also prevented litter as clean environments
discourage littering. Litter-free landscapes also make our community a healthy

As part of its commitment to environmental education, the Environmental Resources (ER) Department teamed up with 5th graders from Lincoln K-8 School to spread the word on the proper place for waste in Olmsted County.
After receiving a presentation detailing Olmsted County's Integrated Solid Waste Management System, the students showcased their artistic talents in the 2017 Student Design an Ad Contest. Nick Watson submitted the winning design.
A representative from Environmental Resources is available to speak to your classroom or community group. To request a speaker, or to learn more about the tours we offer, visit our website!

Graduation parties and family reunions are coming up fast. If you're hosting a party, make it easy for your guests to recycle by borrowing a bin.
The Environmental Resources Department has 11 clear stream recycling bins that are available to the community on a first-come, first-serve basis. One bag per day will be provided for each bin you use.
There is no fee to you so long as the bins are returned the next weekday following your event. Always keep a trash can (not included) next to your recycling containers so your guests know to separate garbage from recyclables. Borrowers are responsible for recycling all items collected. If you plan to bring recyclables to the Olmsted County Recycling Center Plus (OCRC), make sure to separate the plastic and aluminum containers as the OCRC cannot take these materials mixed. For more information, please call 507-328-7070 or email pwservice@co.olmsted.mn.us.
