A message from Mayor Wiersum

Dear Minnetonka residents,

Greetings! I hope you had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend. It’s been hot and humid, but I hope you’ve been able to enjoy some time outside. During this pandemic, outdoors is the safest place to be.

COVID-19 continues to challenge us with infections back on the rise, especially in certain states. Thursday, July 9 set a new national record for positive tests in one day and hospitals are facing capacity and staffing issues. COVID-19 deaths are also starting to rise. Here in Minnesota, the rate of infections has moved from “declining” to “flat” to “increasing.”

While Minnesota’s rate of increase is modest compared to many other states, the news is disturbing and we need to increase our vigilance to reduce the spread of the virus. I urge you to continue following CDC guidelines, social distance, wash your hands, stay home if you’re sick and I strongly encourage you to wear a mask indoors and around others. We’ve learned the virus travels through airborne droplets and can linger indoors. Wearing a mask and avoiding indoor gatherings will help you protect yourself and everyone you encounter.

Speaking of masks, there is important Minnetonka business coming up next week, and your feedback is needed.

To end on a positive note, here are a few recommendations to reduce your risk while enjoying life in Minnetonka. Get outdoors, explore Minnetonka’s parks and trails, open your windows and connect with family and friends in a safe and socially distant way. Outside is better and safer.

Please be personally responsible and help turn Minnesota’s curve back in the right direction. Be safe, be kind and be well. You continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,

Brad Signature
