Looking Forward: MDH Family Home Visiting Evaluation

The MDH Family Home Visiting (FHV) Team is hosting three informational webinars in May regarding the first steps of a transition from PPMRS reporting of FHV data to the use of existing data systems used by local public health (LPH) FHV programs.  The five data systems include: CareFacts, Metro Alliance for Healthy Families (MAHF), Nightingale Notes, Nurse-Family Partnership Efforts to Outcomes, and PH-DOC.

It is the goal of the FHV Team to partner with LPH and their data systems vendors to collect standardized variables on 35 maternal and child health benchmarks. This approach to the FHV Evaluation is intended to improve data quality and to reduce the burden on LPH.  

The 35 benchmarks meet requirements for both the Minnesota Family Home Visiting Statute Section §145A.17 and the Maternal, Infant & Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program.  The benchmarks and variables may be viewed at http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/fh/mch/fhv/documents/FHVBenchmarkPlan.pdf

MDH will concurrently develop a central repository designed for data exchange with each of the five LPH data systems. The goal is for the repository to be compatible with state and national IT standards and compliant with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Public Health Information Network (PHIN) published standards.  

Please note these changes do not impact other areas of PPMRS information required by MDH.
