The Cultural, Faith, and Disability Communities COVID-19 Update is being sent to the following three MDH mailing lists to reduce duplication:
- Cultural, Faith, and Disability Communities COVID-19 Updates
- MN Immigrant and Refugee Health Announcements
- The Center for Health Equity
Today's COVID-19 updates include:
Status of COVID-19 in Minnesota:
Updated August 25, 2022
- Total positive including reinfections: 1,630,819
- Total deaths: 13,078
- Total cases requiring hospitalization: 70,391
- Total cases hospitalized in ICU: 12,353
Numbers are cumulative since Jan. 20, 2020.
The number of lab-confirmed positive tests among Minnesota residents will be updated weekly on Situation Update for COVID-19 with data as of 4 a.m. on the Tuesday prior. The page also includes a map of counties with confirmed cases, and more.
This total reflects only the results from laboratory testing. There are more cases in Minnesota, and the virus is circulating in communities. It is important for everyone to follow advice on community mitigation and social distancing to help us flatten the case curve.
The Governor has launched a public dashboard which includes race data of cases: COVID-19 Data by Race/Ethnicity
Vaccine Data:
Updated August 23, 2022
- People with at least one vaccine dose: 3,976,348
- People with completed vaccine series: 3,749,984
- People up to date with vaccine doses: 1,782,533
Vaccination Breakthrough Weekly Update:
Updated weekly, on Thursdays at 11 a.m.
All data is preliminary and may change as cases are investigated. Case and vaccine totals reflect only the results from laboratory testing and vaccinations that have been reported to the Minnesota Department of Health.
Data may not align exactly with the cases reported on other pages or dashboards due to differences in reporting lags and the frequency with which the data are updated.
What the vaccine breakthrough data do continue to show is vaccines provide protection against COVID-19, particularly against severe illness and hospitalization or death, and we are seeing this protection strengthened when people get a booster, especially for older adults. This means staying up to date on your COVID-19 vaccines, including a booster dose when eligible, is important.

Trusted Messengers: Infectious Disease Equity and Engagement (IDEE) partnered with the National Resource Center for Refugee, Immigrants and Migrants (NRC-RIM housed at UMN) to develop a COVID-19 vaccine training module for public health professionals, community health workers, nurses, community groups and physicians. It takes the TPT video “Trusted Messengers” (follows health care workers around during COVID-19 pandemic as well as trusted community members/spaces and how that plays in COVID-19 vaccine) and pulls of short vignettes that then go along with discussion questions and action items.
