If the 5- to 11-year-olds in your family haven't been vaccinated yet against COVID-19, now is a good time for them to get their shots! Getting more eligible children vaccinated will help protect the health of kids and their families, make schools more safe, and slow the spread of the virus in our communities.
Vaccines are the most effective tool we have to protect ourselves from COVID-19. Vaccinated people young and old are far less likely to experience severe illness or hospitalization if they catch the virus. Visit COVID-19 vaccines for children and teens to learn more about vaccines for kids, then visit Find vaccine locations to plan your child's vaccination.
Minnesota families can get $200 Visa gift cards for every child age 5–11 years old who gets fully vaccinated in January and February. Parents/guardians can register their kids once they have received both doses of the Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds. Visit Minnesota vaccine rewards–Kids Deserve a Shot to read more about the program and to sign up if your kids are eligible. You can also sign up over the phone by calling 833-431-2053; calls are answered Monday through Saturday and operators speak multiple languages.
To be eligible for a $200 Visa gift card, kids 5–11 years old must receive both their first and second doses between January 1 and February 28, 2022. Registration must be submitted online or over the phone by 11:59 p.m. on February 28, 2022. Go to MN vaccine rewards–Kids Deserve a Shot to read the complete rules and to register your kid(s) for the incentive after they have received their second dose.
Schedule vaccinations for your children now.
The Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds consists of two doses, given three weeks apart. To qualify for this $200 reward, children must get their first shot NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 7. Visit Minnesota COVID-19 Response–Find vaccine locations to search for vaccine providers near you that have Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds.

Where to get your child vaccinated:
Minnesota has providers across the state who are able to give COVID-19 vaccines to children and teens, including pediatricians, pharmacies, community clinics, schools, local public health agencies, and tribal health agencies.
If your kids are anxious about getting their shots, consider watching this video with them, "Eliana gets her vaccine! Vaccination from a child's perspective." It shows a trip to a vaccine clinic from a kid's point of view. Eliana even admits, "It didn't hurt that much. It just felt like a little pinch."
To find vaccines for the 5- to 11-year-olds in your household, use these resources:
- Visit mn.gov/vaxforkids to find clinic locations near you.
- Check with their pediatrician, family medicine clinic, or pharmacy about appointments.
- Use the CDC's online vaccine finder at vaccines.gov to search for pharmacies near you with available appointments
-
Minnesota's community vaccination sites at Mall of America in Bloomington and Inwood Oaks in Oakdale are vaccinating anyone 5 years of age and older—families can get their initial vaccines or booster shots while their children get vaccinated. Children ages 5 to 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Online registration for Mall of America appointments and Oakdale appointments is available in English, Hmong, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
- Look for vaccination clinics being offered at schools or other community locations.
Before your child’s appointment, confirm that your provider has the Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds. Not all providers have this in their supply. The Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds is a smaller dose than the one given to people 12 and older, and is packaged differently. Pfizer vaccines for people 12 and up cannot be used on younger children.
We know COVID-19 vaccines are safe for children.
Like all other vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines have been carefully studied before they were recommended to be given to children. If you have questions or concerns about getting your kids vaccinated, consult with reputable sources to learn more. Your child’s pediatrician or your family doctor is an excellent source for reliable information. You can also learn more about COVID-19 vaccines online.
