Minnesota has providers across the state who are able to give COVID-19 vaccines to children and teens, including pediatricians, pharmacies, community clinics, schools, local public health agencies, and tribal health agencies. The state’s main goal is to ensure that the vaccine is widely available and will be distributed equitably and efficiently to all Minnesotans in this newly eligible age group.
To find vaccines for the 5- to 11-year-olds in your household, use these resources:
- Visit mn.gov/vaxforkids to find clinic locations near you.
- Check with their pediatrician, family medicine clinic, or pharmacy about appointments.
- Use the CDC's online vaccine finder at vaccines.gov to search for pharmacies near you with available appointments
- The Minnesota Community Vaccination Sites at Mall of America in Bloomington and Inwood Oaks in Oakdale are vaccinating anyone 5 years of age and older—families can get their initial vaccines or booster shots while their children get vaccinated. Children ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Online registration for Mall of America appointments and Oakdale appointments is available in English, Hmong, Somali, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
- Look for vaccination clinics being offered at schools or other community locations around the state.
Before your child’s appointment, confirm that your provider has the Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds. Not all providers have this in their supply. The Pfizer vaccine for 5- to 11-year-olds is a smaller dose than the one given to people 12 and older, and is packaged differently. Pfizer vaccines for people 12 and up cannot be used on younger children.
We know COVID-19 vaccines are safe for children and adolescents.
Like all other vaccines, COVID-19 vaccines have been carefully studied before they were recommended to be given to children and teens. This process is called a clinical trial, and all authorized vaccines have gone through it. Only vaccines shown to be safe and effective are authorized to be used.
If you have questions or concerns about getting your kids vaccinated, consult with reputable sources to learn more. Your child’s pediatrician or your family doctor is an excellent source for reliable information. You can also learn more about COVID-19 vaccines online.
