MDS 3.0 Changes Effective October 1, 2020

This information is intended for Long Term Care Facility Administrators, Directors of Nursing, MDS Coordinators, and Registered Nurses who work directly with the MDS.

 

The Licensing and Certification Program at the Minnesota Department of Health is offering a free MDS class. The class will be presented by the State RAI Coordinator, Nadine Olness, RN RAC-CT and are intended for nursing home staff who complete the MDS.

 

Course Name: MDS 3.0 Changes Effective October 1, 2020

 Date: Tuesday, October 27, 2020 1:00-2:00 p.m.

 Objectives: Participants will

  • Identify the new items that were added to OBRA comprehensive and quarterly assessments that are not combined with a 5d
  • Be able to state the rationale for these changes
  • Identify the look back periods for sections GG0130, GG0170, and items I0020, I0020B, and J2100 on OBRA assessments not combined with a 5d
  • Understand the requirements for determining whether a surgical procedure can be coded on an OBRA assessment not combined with a 5d
