Survey for TFC and SHIP tobacco staff

Survey for all tobacco SHIP staff

The Tobacco Prevention and Control Unit at MDH needs your help to evaluate tobacco training and technical assistance provided to SHIP and TFC grantees.

We ask that SHIP staff who work on tobacco and all TFC staff complete the survey by Friday, Nov. 2.

Take the survey on the MDH webpage.

Reminder for grantees

There have been a few tweaks to the approval coversheet we ask to be completed “for any contract, mini-grant, or equipment with an amount of $3,000 or more annually for review by their Community Specialist.”

As of Nov. 1, expenditures for partners that have reached $3,000 in one grant year should be approved using the coversheet. In short, if you are working with a partner, using a series of small awards/expenditures, once they total $3,000 or more, please submit a coversheet detailing what has been funded thus far and what you would like to fund that puts it over the threshold.

water bottle station

Brainerd Public Library recently received funding through the Oral Health Unit at the Minnesota Department of Health  to install a new water bottle filling station, which resulted in an opportunity to partner with Crow Wing Energized on a “Rethink Your Drink” campaign.

The fast-fill stations provide a convenient way to fill up reusable water bottles and offer a healthy alternative to sugary beverages.

“We want people to think about what they’re drinking, the sugar content involved, the high calories that come with those sugary drinks and use water instead,” explained Jolene Bradley, Brainerd Public Library manager

During October, the library encouraged community members to track on a bookmark every time they used the station. Once they reached 10 times, they were eligible for a prize. Crow Wing Energized has also layered work in workplace wellness, health care and community engagement with healthy beverage strategies at Baxter Elementary, Essentia Health Sports Center and Fleet Farm corporate.

Visit the MDH news page to see the news release for the water bottle filling station grants.
