Active recess video series launches
Help kids get the most out of recess
Schools across Minnesota now have
access to four short training videos to help jump start their active recess
work and train staff on practices that ensure an active, safe and fun recess
for all.
Check out the series at the Active
Recess page. A worksheet to help guide staff discussion is also
available.
The video series was produced through
Active Schools Minnesota, a joint initiative with the Minnesota Departments of
Health and Education and the Statewide Health Improvement Partnership. Project
coordinators include Dakota County Public Health and City of Bloomington Public

Terri Swartout and Mary Thissen-Milder are transitioning out of
their roles with SHIP. Swartout has a new position as school health coordinator
at Minnesota Department of Education (MDE). Effective Oct. 1, Thissen-Milder
will be at MDE full time, working on the roll out of the state’s new physical
education standards. Both are reviewing SHIP grantee work plans; Swartout will
participate in the upcoming regional meetings.
Decisions on replacing the positions will move forward once OSHII learns
about final funding available through a federal grant.
SHIP grantees should work with their community specialists for
schools questions during the transition.
