Fewer Minnesota adults are smoking, but tobacco use is still a problem
Data published on the MN Public Health Data Access show the
proportion of adults who smoke decreased 10% since 2013. This drop is likely
the result of statewide efforts to reduce tobacco use, including the 2013 tobacco
tax increase, clean indoor air policies, as well as locally led work.
However, tobacco use is still a problem. Sixteen percent of
Minnesota adults still smoke. That’s nearly 1 in every 6 adults. Of those
adults, smoking is more common among those who didn’t graduate from high
school, whose annual household income is less than $25,000, or are members of
certain racial groups.
The MN Public Health Data Access portal has more data and
charts on Adult Smoking.
