Partnership 4 Health Community Leadership Team Member and West Central Initiative Planning Director Wayne Hurley was recognized by the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota as its 2016 Bicycle Friendly Community Champion at the organization’s annual meeting May 1.

“I can’t think of a better person for this award,” said Dorian Grilley, executive director of the Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota. “He has worked tirelessly for years to make Fergus Falls and West Central Minnesota a better place for bicycling. But not only that, his work both on and off the job has benefited all of Minnesota — and that is what a true champion is all about.”

PartnerSHIP 4 Health also recognize Wayne as a hero in Fergus Falls for all things biking-related, helping make progress in providing people with opportunities for health through bicycling and for making meaningful connections between community health and community planning.

Do you have a resource or success story (“gem”) to share for a future issue? Submissions for each week’s Thursday publication are due by noon every Tuesday to Health.MakingitBetter@state.mn.us or community specialists for:

Deadline Approaching for Childhood Obesity Partnerships

Applications Currently Accepted.

The CHOICES team is now accepting applications from state, city and county health agencies to partner together to examine the cost effectiveness of selected childhood obesity initiatives. The expected impact of this partnership will be to engage decision makers and promote discussion and action to ensure that more of our scarce local, state and national public health resources are directed towards more cost-effective interventions.

Local health agencies representing one of the following three geographic areas are eligible to apply:

  • States
  • Large Cities (with populations of 500,000 or more)
  • Large Counties (with populations of 1 million or more)

The partnership will run from July 2017 to June 2018, and the CHOICES team intends to fund up to four health agencies during this 12-month project period. Monetary assistance will be available (contingent upon funding) at an expected average of $50,000 per awardee. Note that the size of the award may vary based on project scope and awardees.
