Cycling Instructor class in St. Paul.
http://www.bikemn.org/events/event/333
This class is a great way to encourage Active Living community
partners (bike clubs, coalitions, local advocates, etc.) to get certified for
liability coverage while also developing a well-rounded curriculum and knowledge
base. An LCI can teach a 1-hour course, 9-hour courses, or
lead events and have liability coverage under the League of American Bicyclist. This class offers a very helpful way to conduct work in the Education and Encouragement
areas of the 6 E's of creating bicycle friendly communities.

is August), the Minnesota Department of Health is starting a program that
recognizes family child care homes and child care centers that have taken steps
to become breastfeeding friendly. Child care providers can play a critical role
in supporting breastfeeding mothers and their babies and it is important to
recognize their successes and efforts to support breastfeeding
mothers.
Please provide this link to your child care partners who have
been implementing best practices and policies that support breastfeeding in their
programs: http://www.health.state.mn.us/divs/oshii/bf/bf-childcare.html.
This link provides steps for homes and centers, and guidance that will help
satisfy the steps and applications needed for recognition.

In commemoration of the 10-year anniversary of the historic ruling in U.S. v. Philip Morris, the
Consortium released a brief video, “The Game-Changer: A Look Back at the Tobacco
Racketeering Case.” Please take a few minutes to view the
video, which features Sharon Eubanks, the lead counsel who represented the U.S.
Department of Justice in this historic tobacco case, as she shares her thoughts
on the ruling’s impact and the progress of tobacco control over the last
decade.
The FDA has developed a
wide range of materials to help retailers understand and comply with federal
laws and regulations when it comes to selling tobacco products. Learn
more.
Since the end of the 20th century, the U.S. has seen a large
increase in smoke-free and tobacco-free environments, including public places,
workplaces, multi-unit apartment buildings and affordable housing. State and
local tobacco control laws often exempt residential care settings, including
assisted living, adult foster care, nursing homes and similar environments,
where many of the most vulnerable members of society live and where a
disproportionate number of residents (and staff) either use tobacco products or
are exposed to secondhand smoke.
This collection of resources presents the
legal landscape of state regulations and provides the public health rationale
for reducing tobacco use and secondhand smoke exposure in assisted living and
similar residential care settings. These materials were prepared as part
of a research grant (RC-2014-0017), funded by ClearWay Minnesota.

35,000 and this number is growing. In this Consortium webinar, presenters will
provide a summary of the most recent literature published on vape shops,
discuss policy options for regulating them in light of the FDA’s new deeming
rule, describe a new tool for conducting observational store assessments, and
share a local case study.
Presenters are Kurt Ribisl, professor, University of North Carolina’s Gillings
School of Global Public Health; and Desmond Jenson, staff attorney,
Tobacco Control Legal Consortium. The moderator is Mean Meany, staff
